Things to patch

E. More options for viewing. I would like to zoom out more, but when I do the map starts to flatten and details disappear.

F. Ability to start a game with your last game settings - like Civ 3 had. If I'm trying to start on a certain starting location, not only do I have to reload, but I have to change settings on certain settings all over again. On custom game this is a nuisance.

On a Personal note, I am having a hard time finding the 'spark' in this game. It is just not the same as C3C for me - that game I installed and could not stop until my eyes were red and watering 16 hours later. (I had played Civ2 and had the same initial experience, but then I found C3C and fell in love with that game.) This one I found it easy to stop after a few hours, and have not really had the same compulsion to play it at every free moment. It is a good game; and I am not saying others will not have this feeling, or saying not to buy it - (though I may recommend that people may want to wait a week or so for the patch at this point); this is just how it is for me. I completely agree! :goodjob:
The first evening I went for the TV for 3 hours, since I felt bored.
The "just this one more turn" feeling is not there... :(

9) Different names for the "temples" :mad:

Man, it is a christian CHURCH, not a temple.
It is an islamic MOSQUE, not a temple.
It is a jewish SYNAGOGUE (sp ?), not a temple...

About the other religions, I don't know.

Hardware Technical issues aside,

The History of Persia, for one (see Persian History thread on same forum, URL http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=132327 ).

Theres a glitch where you can access units inside a transport while in the middle of the ocean. It seems like a glitch to me. Especially when it shows these units floating in the ocean. I think it's more of a cosmetic problem than anything.

Mosque and synagogue are used for the 'cathedral' buildings.

One thing that has bugged me is when starting a game I have to manually change my name from the default, which is my computer's name, so if I forget I end up with my name and a bunch of numbers and letters in all caps. It's very annoying and easily patched I'm sure. It should set the leader of your civ's name as the default.

1- The option to cancel placing a city, before giving it a name and clicking a final okay.

2- The option to cycle through city names

3- Abandoning cities

The default name that appears can be changed in the ini file. (small consolation I know)

Agreed.

My additions to the reasonable suggestions (and besides the buggy resource display and weird landscape):

1) Go back to diplomacy menu after making a deal

2) Close advisors windows when pressing enter (just as you return from the city screen to the main view when pressing enter) in addition to click the exit button.

Minor addition, not a bug, but an annoyance.

Remember the state of the diplomacy screen. Drives me nuts collapsing the city list every single time I'm in there. If I want it expanded, I'll expand it.

This can easily be changed now in the Civilization4.ini file. Go to your civilization4 folder and click on the Civ4config shortcut - it opens the ini file.

Change these lines, adding the name you wish to use:

; Game Name
GameName = "Your Name Here"

; Account Username
Nickname = "Your Name Here"

; Email Address
Email = "Your email Here"

; In-game Alias
Alias = "Your Name Here"

This worked for me!

2- The option to cycle through city names

Should clarify that I mean cycle through names when building a city.

Also, one more: Allow wonder movies and Leonard Nimoy's narration in hotseat games.

Go to city(a major wrist saver,as you can move large amounts of troops without moving your wrist)
and abandon city

but they need to fix the memory first

About the other religions, I don't know.

For Hinduism, you can use Temple, Mandir, Ashram, or Math. Ashram and Math are words used for monestary.

Seeng it happen more- Every time they fiinish a task they just park in a city. Wish the would just que up for new orders, like in civ3, rather than take a siesta. Anyways, thats something to be on the lookout for if you're automating workers.

automate them to improve nearby tiles, not the nearby city.

10) After you have exchanged / traded world maps, the human player is notified to be the first person who has emcompassed the globe. Although at that time your one and only galley was sitting somewhere in a dock and for sure has had no chance to cross the oceans.

Seems to be caused by the fact that world maps are updated even after trading AND that the human player get slot #1.

- Zone of control for military units - it needs to be returned back to the game
- Automating repetetive air missions on the same target - it was in Civ 3, why didn't they include in Civ4?
- Context civilipedia help for everything, like in Civ3 - preferrably through right-click menu
- Better advisors, especially the military advisor that is next to useless now

12) Code optimization.
Well, guys, now honestly, c'mon! :cringe:
After having installed low's gigantic map mod, it took the game 20 secs to get to the second screen of the retiring sequence (after a total of appr. 100 turns played). Why is this? The engine has almost nothing to do at this point! :mad:
Turning on the grid at the very first turns means another 5 -10 secs delay. For maybe 30 tiles displayed???? :rolleyes:

Here you should clearly do some more homeworks!

Well, the game clearly has been rushed.
Give me the name of a game that went into sales without bugs and I consider whether I should agree with you.

Commander Bello said:
1) You may get a message: "The enemy has been spotted near [insert city name]" - it would be very helpful if you could click on that message and then center the screen over the city in question
Then, there also appears a small circle with an arrowpoint on your screen. If you click that you automaticly scroll to the 'sighting spot'. This is the same circle you get when you're viewing an active unit but (for some reason) scroll to a position on the map where you can't see the active unit anymore.

Commander Bello said:
2) There are some areas where you might want to scroll with the mouse, but you just can't. Several descriptions from the Civilopedia come to mind.

3) It would be very useful if the tech tree would have a "auto-scrolling" feature as has the map. In other words, why do I have to move the scrollbar at the bottom, why doesn't the tech tree scroll if I move the mouse to the left or right border?
Agreed, but I wonder if this should be considered a rush error or a general misjudgement.

Commander Bello said:
4) Tech tree again. Sometimes researching a tech may allow you to research the successor tech, sometimes it doesn't since other requirements are missing. It would be helpful if the arrows would become different in colour in case you could already research that successor tech. This would be especially helpful in case of this next tech being somewhere far to the right.
Isn't that why there are icons in the upper right corner of each tech, to indicate what other tech you need?

Commander Bello said:
5) Tech tree once more. Why do we have to click on a tech to see how many turns it will last to get it? This could be indicated at the headline of that tech, as it does AFTER you have selected it.
I don't get this one :?:.

Commander Bello said:
6) A little readjustment of the Civilopedia button might be helpful, as you may not point accurately to it with your mouse and then you just scroll the screen. This is annoying and unnecessary.
Nah, nothing to do with Civ4 being a rush job. You need some getting used to it.

One thing I call a proper misjudgement of the dev team is to have the civilopedia without names, just icons. This is kind of annoying since you need to guess what's what, expecially the first times.
