Things you thought when you were a noob

I remember when I thought that 10 workers was more than enough for my entire empire. Also, I remember when I had to build every building in every city because they were there.

I thought that cities made money for me and I wondered why I was in debt when I had a 20 city empire before COL

I thought units healed themselves

I thought that Gandhi wouldn't DOW on me if I had a unit in each city

I wondered why my Keshiks were getting slaughtered by China.

My 'army' consisted of a bunch of units (at Settler level), mostly Tanks and Artillery, surrounding the other Civ's cultural borders. When I did declare war, two Tanks would roam in, kill two Longbowmen, capture a city, and gift it to the AI.

Not surprisingly, my first victory was Diplomatic.

I never used slavery until probably a year ago and I've been playing civ since CivII. I thought that it was fundamentally wrong that they would put something so evil into a game and refused to touch it.

I realized eventually it was just a game and needed to get over it to move ahead....Oh the days of youthful unbounded morality...

Well at first i built a bunch of musketmen and sent one to an enemy city thinking that guns obviously beat longbows....

Also i would never understand what techs were and i would be pissed at my game for putting the slider to 80% after me moving it up back to 100 then it doing again the next turn....

And once i admit i didn't know i could load troops into ships like galleys or galleons and chose an archipelago once and i just stayed on my little island the entire game not knowing how Toku was building cities all over the place.....

Also, I remember when I had to build every building in every city because they were there.

Me too. Never had time to build units. Then I'd wonder why the AI always declared on me and kicked my arse.

I thought that each civic was an improvement from the last and you should switch to ones on the lower end of the list as soon as possible.

I didn't know what to do if :
- I didn't start with a gold mine
- I didn't have flood plains all around (I was a cottage fan)
- I could not build the Pyramids (for the +3 happiness boost - I thought that this +3 beakers was really unimportant)

- I liked to found religions and did my best to get the shrine.

- I wouldn't exchange techs with the AIs. I couldn't bear giving more than what I got, and thought the AIs were exchanging techs like mad. Now I'm capable of giving away code of laws to poor old Toku for 40 gold. (after all, I get something).

My first game or two, I thought that in order to reduce the unhappiness from "It's too crowded", that I had to build cottages for them to move into so it would be less crowded.

I thought that too!!!

I guess I'm still disappointed with tanks.

The only person who ever beat a tank was John Wayne, and he had a tank too.-Vonnegut

He forgot about spearmen...

I would never build missile cruisers because I couldn't figure out how to load them. :crazyeye:

Then I never built the missiles because "Why bother? I can't use them!"

And no. I am not blonde.

i never knew cities couldnt work the same tiles so whenever i played as rome on earth i would settle a city in southern italy and ponder why i would go into rome's screen and have it work tiles then into antium or neapolis and set its tiles and just keep doing it that way/

I thought that any tile in your empire could be worked, and wondered why my cottages didn't grow.
I looked at civics from a moral basis.
My build for each city went like this: Worker-->Military Unit-->Settler-->Military Unit-->Settler. I couldn't figure out why I went into debt.
I never finished any games, and didn't see the Renaissance for a loooong time.
This despite the fact that I played on quick.
I sent units in one at a time and wondered why they were getting slaughtered when they attacked.
I didn't know about attacking odds.
