I'm considering getting Railroads because I want to get a 'light' strategy game that my kids and I could play.
I've read places that said that the game is not compatible with Vista. But I've also seen fixes that are supposed to get around that problem. Has anyone with Vista been able to play with stability in Vista?

In multiplayer are you able to play as teams like say: 2 humans vs. 2 AI?

Thanks for any input.

Never ever have I played a game with so many technical issues. The biggest strategic challenge is how to avoid CTDs. My advice: don't buy unless they release a new patch. It's a nightmare.

I do not doubt that Bluetooth has experienced some serious game crashes, but I've never had a single technical issue with the game.

And for what it's worth, I'm running the game on Windows Vista 64 Bit, which many games have trouble on. Not SMR, though. It would be a nice fun light strategy game for the kids.

I purchased railroads through steam (I bought the 2k games pack for 50 some dollars when it was on sale) and play it regularly on my HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr Entertainment Notebook PC (running vista).
I recommend buying all games through steam if possible, but that might just be because i tend to get my discs scratches and damaged : \

me too, worked flawless. I've had the cd version, maybe there's a difference to the steam version?

As I mentioned on another thread, I'm waiting anxiously for this game after ordering it from a local shop. I had NO idea there were technical issues with Vista. It's been a bit disheartening reading about them before I even get the game.

After reading the last four posts though, I don't feel quite so bad.

I can't wait to get this bad boy up and running! (I've played RT2 six ways from Sunday... it's time for something new)

Just a piece of advice, don't download any of the maps that are available on the Internet and don't try to make your own maps. That's when the real nightmare begins. If you play the original game you might have a good game experience, just like the previous posters.

The reason to my problems might be that I hardly can't start to play a game before I think about how to make my own maps (huge), scenarios and mods.

I'm not much of a map maker. Even with CIV IV which runs just fine. Now if I get through all the game's maps and scenerios and still want more, that might be a different story.
