i can find some source of inspiration for cities. Since by now i really dislike the late byzantine set.
It is not a problem of the actual models. I like my models, especially the ones that turned into buildings. They are very detailed and well-made.
What i think i am lacking is a sense of overall composition. I used too few colours, and the arrangement of the buildings seems boring to me.
Problem is i don't have any images of isometric cities to get ideas from, and no one here bothers to help. ;)

At least buildings can still be made, although it kind of loses significance if there is no city set made out of them...

Thank you for sharing, you are a grown-up alright.

I will say what i want, it is you who posts your garbage view on a thread meant for a specific purpose ;)

edit: why did you take your wonderfull post down? It was such a marvellous showcase of your worth.
Anyway, hopefully there are people with suggestions for gfx.

Those that still create for Civ 3 are not in great numbers... I still don't have the skills to make things from scratch, which is why I have devoted my time to conversions. Eventually if I gain skills to create from scratch, I may take it up; but I would have to spend alot of time learning which in my opinion would be put to better use of converting.

We all think that your creations are fantastic, I don't see them in any way except terrific. But I am already drowning in not-enough-time; especially since I have 2 jobs now (PT) to get me by until I can get a FT position. I barely have enough time to do what I can do, and less time to even read threads like I used to. Example: I said I was going to get some city graphics from some 3d games, but I am just bogged down as of late, and since most are all seperate little buildings, it would be a mind-boggling endevour to bring them up in 3ds, get them in isometric and render each one, then fit them all together, or compile them into one huge graphic folder. With no lighting, they come out looking like dark buildings with a black background... it's quite time-consuming.

I do it because I enjoy doing it; I really don't care much about anything else. If you do not enjoy doing it, perhaps try some other types of graphic creation, or maybe take a break for a little while. If I start feeling tired of doing conversions, I would take a break and come back with a refreshed sense of enjoyment doing what I like to.

Back in the day, there would be hordes of people giving info, graphics and pics; but nowadays there just are not as many around. When Civ 5 comes out, there will be another drop.

In regards to the graphic shown above, it doesn't look like it has enough saturation.. I had the exact similar problem with conversions I was doing (looked not good in game), but I finally figured it out. I'm not sure how (Bryce is it?) works with lighting and all; so I am of no help there. But graphics programs can pretty easily adjust the colors to what you want them; and they can do that quickly and easily.

Varwnos I have the upmost respect for your work. I use many of your graphics. But I have to agree with what Tom said. Most of us have barely enough time for our own projects let alone to spend time searching for pictures for someone else. I don't think you creating graphics should hinge on whether or not you recieve help from other members. If you enjoy it, do it. If not perhaps you should stop (though I sincerely hope you don't). Or take a break as Tom sugested. If others have the time they will help you. I've seen people, Oz springs to mind, find building examples for you but it won't always happen I guess.

Are multiple people googling for images any more effective than one anyway? Surely you know best what images you need anyway.

Cheers,

Nick

Seriously though, Varnows we all love your work, and the number of projects that includes a graphic you've worked on is truly staggering. If you need a break, then just take a break. The community will still be here if/when you return.

I can google on my own of course, but i haven't been able to find any city sets in isometric and in civ scale, apart from those in Age of Wonders.
I was wondering if others played games that had such cities, so they could suggest them :)

I'm not sure of what help this is (probably very little), but if you're thinking of citites in isometric view, SimCity springs to mind immediately. However, probably doesn't have enough architecture from the eras you'd be interested in.

This thread started badly and went worse.

If you don't feel inspired to make graphics there's nothing anyone else can do about it. You've already requested help finding source images. The point at which you start opening new threads purely to complain that you haven't received enough help is the point at which it turns into spam.

The whole "threatening to stop creating" trope is also one that I'm tired of seeing on this site too. If you want to stop creating stuff, just stop - no need to make a great announcement about it to the world in a bid for attention.
