Wanted to get your alls take on this.

Spoiler :

So Korea is starting to do what Korea does, and his science is starting to spike. He is on the left contient from me (who is Austria).

Korea has 3 techs and 2 policies over me, and is now starting to gobble up all of the wonders. He's also been stealing CS allies one after the other.

Now the trick is, his sea tech is equivalent to mine, and he has a defensive pact with Shoshone just north of him. So if I attack, I'm dealing with 2 full modern navies....so I don't think that will really be a good option, and Shoshone is actually friendly with me right now.

So my plan right now, I have 7 TRs going to Korea sucking up culture and science (its not enough to catch up but its slowing the gap), and I have a spy in his capital that is getting me a tech every blue moon. I'm going to just keep it quiet, and buy up a sphere each time I can until the defensive pact breaks up.

That said, I know how Korea can go when he's on top, and the next time I face him he may have a significant tech lead over me.

So what do you think? Should I wait it out like I'm doing, or do you think going aggressive is the best plan?

If you dominate the WC then his marginal tech lead shouldn't be a problem, and may even help you. If he gets to the techs required for world ideology or UN fast then all it does is allow you to propose them earlier. If you're able to pass both as soon as they become available then you should be able to win a diplo victory before he can win via science. So just focus on the WC and make sure things will pass without delay.

Edit: also, I'd be very wary of any wars that could lose me CS allies, especially married ones.

Here's what actually happened if you want to know:

Spoiler :

I executed my plan, and proposed United Nations.

It was like a flare went off, because everyone attack me, including Korea. Korea now had a 10 tech lead and missile cruisers to my ironclads. Forced back to my shore line by both Korea and the Shoshone and then I was hit with a nuke that destroyed a lot of my fleet. United Nation vote failed by a few votes.

So ultimately my worst fear has come to pass. It will take me too long to go for DV, and Korea is all but invincible now. Time to call the ball.

Had UN passed would you have been able to win? Did you already have world ideology passed and would you have had the votes for world leader if you held on militarily?

Every time i play against Korea on Emperor/Immortal, this is what happens post renaissance every single time .... IMO the answer is always attack him, i was never able to catch up with Korea once they start rolling.
I'm interested to see how would this go if you had gone the military route, do you have the save file from the first screenshot ?
Just out of curiosity, what is this map, settings ?

I'd be interested in seeing the save for this as well. I can't see the full diplomatic situation from the screen shots, but you could have declared war on Venice causing Korea to declare war on you without bringing in the Shoshone. That obviously depends on what other alliances/defensive pacts Venice had. I'm guessing Egypt doesn't like Venice so you could have tried to get them to jump on that war with you to keep Venice busy.

I probably would have attacked him as there is usually no hope of stopping Korea late game otherwise. It looks like his northern city on that island could be taken relatively easily which would allow you to cut off his diplomats from the city-states near Carthage.

Well, hopefully other AIs should get mad at him with him gobbling up all the Wonders. I'm admittedly not a higher difficulty player due to lack of time, so I won't try to speculate on strategy too much.

My biggest concern here would be "They asked you to stop spying on them, and you ignored them!."

How DARE Firaxis not proofread their Opinion modifiers! That extra period at the end is just offensive. I added a fix for it to my pull request on Github. :)

Any thoughts on how to war against a late game run away? I’ve got a late game Germany that is 10ish techs ahead of me. I’ve got a strong navy but they’ve got bombers and I don’t even have planes or anti aircraft guns yet so... not sure how to attack them or what window I’m looking for. Nukes?

I think diplomatic victory for Germany will be slow because I’ve killed many of its city state allies, so I may have some time, but it has 22 wonders and just took several cities from its neighbor to the east (previously the #3 CIV) quite easily.

Edit: I'm England as Progress / Fealty / Imperialism. I'm only 4 policies into Imperialism. Germany is Tradition / Statecraft / Industry / Freedom, with 3 or 4 policies into Freedom.

Difficulty is deity. Continent maps. I wiped out my neighbor Montezuma with my navy once I got Ships of the Line and have taken all neighboring cities so that my eastern border is entirely aligned with Germany.

I've got a navy with ~30 ships, including some upgraded cruisers with logistics, but Germany has bombers, paratroopers, other troops that are way more advanced than me.

From a naval standpoint, its a completely different ballgame once you have destroyers....air forces really have problems with them because of all the interception. So I would at least wait until you have those.

Do you have any screen shots? My initial thought would be to attack someone else to get more land, supply, and production.

I'll post some screenshots later today. Based on the advice, I delayed my attack because I had no anti air while Germany had bombers.

Now Germany has missile cruisers and nuclear bombs but I'm a few policies into autocracy and space regulations was passed. I'm researching destroyers now and have tanks. I'm about 13 tech's behind. Going to start the war now though, because he'll run away otherwise. I also proposed war games, even though I knew Germany would get 1st place, because the +25% attack bonus will be needed to kill his troops.

I haven't fought the AI with nukes before or when behind by this many techs at this stage in the game so it should be interesting. It's basically defeat Germany or Germany will win.

One thing I've noticed recently is that keeping up in technology with the AI is crucial for war. I'm not sure I've done so here.

Update: and now the whole world except for one civ is at war with Germany. Good to see the AI realizing that the runaway is going to win.

If Stalker doesn't mind I'll use this thread instead of making new ones for similar questions.
Got an interesting start as Arabia (pangea, emp, epic, low sea), my idea was to go authority->statecraft.
I could barely see some desert and moved my settler two turns to potentially be viable for petra and I had some nice city states around (I play with 14, 16 are too good for statecraft civs imo).

My initial question is if anyone have tested the new god of commerce, is it viable to found with?
I can see it scale quite nice in the longer term.
With 5! pastures in fat cross open sky is of course a very good option but I've played that a lot recently.

The second is more broadly, this start that looked good and then ... wait a min, these are my neighbours?

Lastly my steam screenshots stopped working (have to snip ingame which is messy), no idea how to fix, last time this happened I just re did the stuff in steam config page for screenshots ingame, any ideas what to try? (win 7)

The last time I tried god of commerce it wasn't giving faith from trade routes. Not sure if that got fixed in this most recent version.

In the end when I counted all those pastures, open sky was too good to skip.
