Actually, I used to do exactly what rmsjazz disdained a way up on this list. I embellished the throne room as much as possible but left the throne itself rather bare. The room showed power and opulence, with just the right hint of personal (fraudulent) humility. It's great to be king!
If you take into account that all pictures we have seen so far are "work in progress" then there have been a lot of discussion over nothing. As for the end product, I hope that it's at least somewhat correct in styles and in the history it actually depicts. Since Civ3 will have a wider distribution than any Architectural digest or other cultural magazine, let hope that some players can learn something as well, even without noticing it.
Personally I would like to play Vikings and have a Throne room to develop, but I'll settle for almost anything to get the game soon.
