Throw out Mao?

I just voted for Tang Taizong in the other poll. I can't believe 50% of our fellow fans voted for that jerk! Today, the Chinese people are not communist (in practice). We're back practicing what our ancestors have been doing. Making money!

We hate communism. It is a nonsense ideology. Those Mao years were just 27 'dark ages' years in our 4000 history. Our favorite type of government should not be communism, it should be Despotism. Notice how China is somehow in good talking terms with all the nasty dictators (Kim Jong Il and friends). Oh, North Korea is not a communist country it is practicing Despotism.

China was at odds with Communist Soviet during the Cold War. That was during Mao too. Later on, China (under Deng) fought Communist Vietnam. See... China's is not friendly to Communist countries.

Nkorea, is not a despotism, its Stalinist, or a cross between despotism and communism. ASnd china picks alot of fights, even with those of the same ideology.

"Restore Lenin...he was a good man" Yeah, he was really good. Better than Hitler. I don't have the exact numbers but he killed 4-6x as many of his own people than Hitler ever did.

In terms of the question, there is a mismatch between time period of Bismark, Catherine and Mao. It would make more sense to have them all of the same period.

But who really cares!? The rider is a great UU for the civ. If the picture of Mao bothers you, replace it with another graphic.

Better requests would be:
1. toggle grid reference on/off
2. preference additional sea movement to coast and sea
3. more than 8 civs on trading map
4. ability to replay movie even though finished game
5. worker improve priority list, somewhat like have for cities
6. ability to rename units, just as you can rename cities
7. toggle something to get current cities
8. toggle something to get turn number, instead of just year
....etc

Obviously anything on this forum, would be a potential include item in patch to Conquests. But if you can't come up with better ideas than
just replace Mao, nothing will happen. Most of us simply don't care what the name of the government leader is. All we want to know is:
1. can I recognize the civ by the leader's name
2. does the UU for the civ make sense
3. do the charactistics of the civ make sense.

For the rest of it, just get on with the game.

Warden: Who's the Xuanzong you're talking about? If he's the one that causes the Tang Dynasty to die out because of a woman, then it's probably not a good choice to pick him. And Jiang Jieshi, if you're picking a leader for china, don't say his name. Otherwise go to that "pick a leader for taiwan" thread.
Kangxi is not a good choice. The Qing dynasty is plain rotten. Don't pick them.

I agree Mao is not that "civ-ish", but i wouldn't vote to "throw him out" either. I vote neutral.

I don't mind Mao, except for that hideous mole, but I do think the leader should sort of go with the UU.

That said, I don't think the Rider is very representative of China.

Metacomet, please vote in the "Who should be the leader of China Poll". ...if you haven't done so already...

But if you do so, please vote for Emperor Tang Taizong (a.k.a. Li Shimin)... He is so much better than the 1st Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi. Please read the materials Dida provided. Maybe you'll change your mind. If not, then vote for Qin Shi Huangdi. He is still a better option than Mao.

What's the significance of all this Taizong lobbying? Because I'm hoping that Firaxis will use him in Civ4 next time. Hey, they've already used Emperor Taizong in the Chinese version of Civ3...

In the Chinese version of civ3, supposedly, the leader is Li Shimin, but I've never seen it myself. Dida knows.

How do we replace Mao. By voting for Li Shimin so that MAYBE the next time around, Firaxis will consider throwing Mao out.
