My favourite game of all time goes a little like this:
I was the Japanese, crammed into a thin stretch of land so i had limited space to build cities. neighbouring me was germans who had a big fat piece of land but i eventually allied with them. so i was stuck...
but somehow i rose to become a superpower, I had HUGE fleets of destroyers, AEGIS Cruisers, Battleships etc. Naval was my strong point, and anhilated enemy civilizations with nukes. I would conquer enemy citys but they were all on tiny islands too, so my empire didnt grow much larger.
However, I would occasionaly get chinese from the west landing in my thin stretch of land, invading, conquering the odd city or two. I had no idea where they were coming from, the West was unexplored.
So I stacked up on a huge fleet of ships, carriers + bombers, fighters with a huge arsenal of nukes. I had a few transports with armor and marines to take over their nearest cities.
so i explore the unexplored, find their land, anhilate their fleet of ships with my hordes submarines and battleships.
I initially conquer the first couple of cities but to my horror, I find that it is almost like real china!!! They had a HUGE mass of land, with an INSANE amount of cities and units, and completely wipe me out and my ships have to come home
The game eventually became impossible to win, they were far too strong, and had SDI in every city. so i just retired lol, but was fun nonetheless
btw, this was on the second-hardest difficulty setting.
