To Raze or not to Raze?

It effects your reputation majorly, how would it sound if you heard that the ZULU were killing helpless greek citezens by burning their cities?

It won't affect your reputation, but it will affect their attitude towards you in a negative way. Attitude is 'Gracious' , 'Annoyed', etc, while reputation affects whether or not they will accept multi-turn deals from you.

OKay, so reputation isn't the word, but still, I wouldn't trust someone that's burning every city in sight!

Ya, reputation destroys deals on MPP, RoP, and Gpt deals (I know I missed some), attitude is the likeliness they'll go to war with you if prevoked.

How do I view my reputation? I thought attitude and reputation went hand in hand? Oh wait...is attitude like...we know you backstabbed Japan...we refuse to sign a ROP with you. They mentioned no nos you did in the past?

There is no way to see your reputation, but you'll know when you've ruined your rep -- it will become far more difficult to make trades with the AIs.

Razing also only worsens the attitude of the owner of the razed city and any civ that had citizens of their culture in that city.

Meh i dont care about attitudes... if the citys where i want it, not too big that its likely to culture flip without intense starving, and im not needing workers i keep it, otherwize it gets raized.. especially when i jam so many citys onto my boarder to i can launch a very quick strike using road and rail

And there are voices saying the AI is more likely to agree to peace, if you razed some of their cities rather than conquering them, but I can't give you a definitive quote.

i love razing! especially capitals,or even wonders, if i have the most and they have, like one.. :goodjob: :nuke:

I only raze if I have nothing but about 1 unit to keep it, it's surrounded by enemies, and doesn't have health above the critical level. Actually, as Alexander in the Rise of Rome scenario I razed the Persian cities everywhere east of Asia Minor just so I could finish them off.

I try to keep it, but if I am in the danger of losing it again, I abandon it.

I think folks who play for conquest often have to do quite a bit of razing; else, you run the risk of winning by domination before you get a chance to win by conquest.

The simple way to check your reputation is to offer a trade to the AI:

- trade x gold per turn to an AI for 1 gold.

If they don't accept, then your reputation is ruined.

Reputation is also specific to a particular civ. For example, if you had broken a per-turn deal with Japan, then your rep is ruined with Japan and any nation that is friendly with Japan, but any civ that is at war with Japan will still deal with you as if your rep is intact.

When my armies conquer a city, sometimes they are given the choice of installing a new gov or razing, and sometimes they just automatically destroy the city. Does anyone know what determines this? How do I control it?
