I would have made a poll, but invariably i would have left something out. just wondering what advancements or inventions everyone thinks have had the most profound impact on humanity. here's mine:

1. Agriculture--made everything else possible
2. Writing--Raised humanity out of prehistory and has given continuity of meaning to our existence.
3. The Printing Press--People power!!
4. (Harnessing of) Electricity--led to light bulb, radio, elevators and skyscrapers, computers etc.
5. The Internet--People power on steroids!

I left religion out because i believe it is Divine intervention. No doubt that steel, plastics and nuclear weapons should be rated high on the list, but I don't see them as being in the top 5. How about you guys?

1. Agriculture
2. Money
3. Urban centralization
4. Medicine
5. Amuurica (or) Communications

1. Greed - Thats why people invent stuff
2. Jealous - That why people die from other people
3.
4.
5.
You can add 3-5 i'm too lazy atm!

1. Calculus. Self-explanatory.
2. Something military: Either rifled grooves, the infantry mortar, or the machine gun.
3. The Printing Press, for its impact on the spread of knowlege
4. Double-entry bookeeping, for its impact on business and finance
5. Railroads, for their impact on economic development

Aside from the obvious stuff like writing, agriculture, the taming of the horse and camel, the stirrup, the development of cities, etc.

1. Agriculture--made everything else possible

I'd classify agriculture like fire, as more as a discovery than an invention. It was none-the-less the most important discovery in founding modern society.

1)Writing is very important.
2)Printing press doubly so
3)Sewage systems
4)Steel
5)Democracy

No-one heard of the Wheel?

:goodjob: Thank you! I'm reading these choices and thinking, "where is the most obvious??"

  • The wheel
  • Concrete (kudos to those master builders, the Romans!)
  • Antibiotics
  • Powered flight
  • 4-way tie: Samantha Fox, Kathy Ireland, Civilization, X-Com (okay, really it's the printing press, but I couldn't let those four go without a shout out)
