ToT scenario creation tips?

ToT is underrated but that is because many people think of it as just MGE with better graphics because those people don´t mod
The problem is that most people don't think they're better graphics. In fact, I for one can't stand the original graphics in ToT. They're just plain ugly. They're also indistinct, with unit type/ownership recognition being a real problem for some people. People ignore the fact that they're potentially better than those of the old versions of Civ2 (16-bit > 8-bit). However, gamers could legitimately ask the question: Why should I have to mod the graphics in the first place? I just want to play the game.

W, what program did you use to capture that image?
Erm, Windows XP: <Print Scrn> key. ;) The image was pasted into Paint Shop Pro 8.10, then cropped and saved as a gif. You can just as easily paste into MS Paint, although its colour resampling (from 24-bit to 8-bit gif) leaves a lot to be desired.

The sprites are really only as difficult as you want them to be. You could fully animate the units or just make do with static ones with 1 to 5 orientations (8 when mirrored). For example, the elephant below (ripped from Age of Kings) is a static sprite with 5 frames.
Ok, i'm at this point now: any indications on how to do this? Some how to post i may have overlooked? When i "decompressed" a sprite, out came 157 images. Do i just include 5+3 images and turn it into a sprite, or do i have to fill in the 157 with copies of the 8 i made in the appropriate slots?

You must have extracted those from a UnitXX.spr. You probably shouldn't mess with those unless you want to create fully animated units. The UnitXX.spr sprite files contain the graphics for the unit animations. Each unit has its own sprite file.

To create a static unit with 5+3 orientations you need to use the "Static.spr". That file contains the static images with the 5 facing directions for all units. Export all images from the static.spr, find the 5 images of the unit(s) you want to replace, overwrite them with your own graphics, and import everything again.
