I think your're underestimating the Caro Kann. If White had such an easy time against it, why would the likes of Karpov, Seirawan, Larsen, Christiansen, and Kasparov, all top players, some very dynamic, choose to use it? It has the potential to be quite aggressive, but first seeks to catch-up in development.
10 minutesfrom a tournament? Sounds like fun. It's been years since I've even been to a Chess Club, let alone a tournament. I have to see if there's a club near me. I know there's one in Tel Aviv, but that's an hour away from Jerusalem, where I live. It was a lot easier back when I lived in New York. There were times when I could get a few games in the park durring my lunch break or after work.
