i believe we shoudl look at the roman deal for dyes again which we should have done last turn chat

I'd make a Incense and Dye deal with the Romans, but only for gpt from us, not lump sum.

uhm this i believe was the deal from a chat ago i hope to have a new one up soon

Yes, we are on 430 AD now. Anyway, here are some current trade ideas:

We could try to buy invention. As you all know it is very cold in Russia and they would gladly give us the secrets of invention if we export furs to them and give them the secrets of our educational system. If we did this we could also give our education system to America in return for dyes. Perhaps someday we could sell dyed furs to the Russians? We could make those two deals and then sell incense and furs to Rome for 16gpt, WM and 50g. We could then turn around and buy Babylonian ivory for 16gpt, WM and 155g. We currently have 4 luxuries in our connected cities and have the ability to build markets. We currently have 5 unconnected cities, mainly in the northwest. Tarkingrad is our sole non-northern unconnected city. We should also consider giving education to France and England. We do not want them getting too far behind America!

from Reinstating the alliance with Rome thread...
The Romans are willing to sign another alliance against he [sic] Persians. They will give us 54 gold, 6 gpt and their world map to do so.
If Rome is willing to give us this for an alliance against Persia (= no skin off our backs...), then we should let them do so.

Then, I like Donsig's suggestions for trading the secret of Education to America for Dyes and to Russia for Invenion. If Russia wants our Furs as well, perhaps they might be willing to compensate us with some gpt as well....

This will bring in one extra luxury which will be helpful in keeping the peace in Eklektochtitlan (and maybe one or two of our other cities as they grow larger). We could then trade our excess incense to the highest bidder to help boost our economy.

After these transactions, I would be opposed to buying another luxury as the benefit of such would essentially be wasted. Keep in mind that we will be connecting Gems to our Trade Network soon and with the dyes from America, we will have five luxuries - a sixth would be extraneous.

We would be much better served using our funds to upgrade units and rush improvements. Later on, when many of our cities are larger and we need the luxuries to keep our citizens happy, find, but now, most of our cities have fewer population points than luxuries available to it.

And in the ones with a high population, markets should more than suffice for happiness. Besides, we have 4 luxs already. Gems will be availible soon, and the Padmativa settler might go for the Ivory near Baltimore. (Gee, I never knew my city had elephants! :p) That's 6. America has dyes, and so does India (near Ganges). Those are within our reach, too. Russia and the Zulus have most of the silks (China has atleast 1). We could trade for those much later when our cities get past size 12.

So, with 4 luxs, and 2 in sight (and another if we choose to take it by force), I think we're in pretty good shape happiness-wise.
