Trade missions should be easier

With a merchant selected, if you hold down SHIFT and right click on a opponent's city, then hover over the trade mission button, you can see how much that trade mission will net. You can then cancel that order, and try it on another city, etc. So you can figure out which trade mission is best before you start moving.

thank you for this tip it is fantastic!!! and i'd always just looked at distance from my own capital, and size of the city, not taking into account trade routes and such.

i just got my first merchant since reading this thread last week, tried this method. all enemy capitals i know about are more or less the same distance from my own. 2100g from an inland one at pop 11, 2500g from a coastal one at pop 10, and a whopping 3500g from an inland one at pop 12 that has temple of artemis in it. nice fat difference! yes it's a bit bigger in pop but clearly ToA is having an impact there too.

i've never built ToA. i'm gonna have to think about using that one on a coastal city someday, might be yum.

Reducing the micromanagement would be OK. They've reduced the micromanagement for trade routes, which I think most people agree is a good thing. The Specialist trade mission would seem to fall into the same category.

On the other hand, it's really not a big deal, and only happens once or twice in a typical game. So I don't think I'd place it very high on my change request list.
