I have a question. Forgive me if this has already been answered somewhere else, if so please show me where.

What is the formula for how long/how many turns a trade route will last before it has to be renewed/moved etc?

I assume it is a combination of distance of trade route + if one or both cities have a trading post or not. Are there any other factors that will change this?

Cheers all.

CIVILIZATION WIKI

CIVILIZATION WIKI
Trade Route (Civ6)

Duration
A Trade Route runs for a minimum of 20 turns on Standard game speed (affected by game speed), but only ends when the Trader reaches the origin city. As Traders move at a speed of one tile per turn, Trade Routes can only end after (n * 2 * route length) turns, where n is a natural number ≥ 1.

Examples for different route lengths on standard speed:

Distance travelled (tiles) Roundtrip time (turns) Number of trips Duration (turns)
4 8 3 24
5 10 2 20
9 18 2 36
10 20 1 20
15 30 1 30

Here's the full article: https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Trade_Route_(Civ6)

Anyway, it's pretty simple. Consider the distance between two cities, multiply by two. If that number is greater than or equal to twenty, then that's the duration of the trade route. If it's not, then add another trip and keep doing this until you hit twenty or more turns.

wiki and its table on this subject are off the mark.
I thought this then read the guide and realised wiki has probably taken the formula from the guide. Or at least the information originates from the guide.
The wiki is not as in depth but I could not see anything wrong, tell me what is and I'll pop in and change it after checking.
Agreed though, the guide is far better than wiiki

Yes, apparently formula is the same, but better explained in detail in the guide, and wiki somehow got number of trips for 5 and 10 tiles distance wrong. So on standard 5 tiles long trade route will not end after 20 turns as in wiki's table, but after 30 turns. 10 tiles long trade route will not end after 20 turns, but after 40.

The shortest possible trade route (in terms of turns, not tile distance) will end after 22 turns, which is in line what I have observed in the game. I have never seen a 20 turn long trade route, so I trust the guide more. I'll admit that I did not count the tiles and turns myself, as the guide's author probably did, but was relying on helpful UI mods. :)
