Trading With Other Civs

Newbie question!

When trading your technologies etc. with other Civilizations, do you actually lose the benefit of whatever you have traded?

No. You keep it. Unless you are delaying a monopoly tech to broker it more, or you have diplomacy concerns, trading as much as possible is a good rule of thumb. It's the greatest :beakers: multiplier in the game.
