Treasury Issues

I have been playing the game since its release date, and seem to be developing some pretty good strategies.

However, I've been looking at the prices for espionage, and they have confounded me. If it costs like 3,000+ gold to do one thing in the espionage menu, what does that imply for how much gold I should have sitting around?

My question basically is, how much gold do you guys have toward the end of the game in your coffers? Do other people find the price of espionage completely unattainable? How much gold are you making per turn during each stage of the game, generally? What rates do you have your Science and Luxury set at at the different stages in the game?

Yes, that is a lot of questions, but they all stem from the same gold issues.

I have been pumping up my science at the beginning of the game to at least 80%, and trying to keep it there. Usually I can. However, this basically keeps my treasury very low. Eventually, as the game progresses, I can keep the science rate pegged at 100%, and still be making 200+ gold per turn. But it still seems I can't afford espionage.

Thanks

If you're doing that, than you're obviously doing a pretty good job of selling lux/tech and the like. I don't think it's a treasury problem, I think it's just that spying is too damn expensive. I've stolen a tech, I think, once. And it cost half my treasury. And this was a game where I owned half the world's resources and was selling them like crazy. I find almost none of the espionage options worth it. Intell Agency is nice to get battle order info on F3 screen, but that's about it.

I too gave up on Espionage as an efficient technique. Trading is cheaper for tech. Culture is more effective for subversion, though it takes time.

Yes, I agree. And another thing I've noticed is that by the time I can get Espionage, *everyone* is in a Democracy and therefore immune to Propoghanda. Which is disappointing because Propoghanda seems so cool!

ive never been able to afford the highest chance of success option.. literally, it always asks for more than i have
