Pangea Map Leader/Civ Choices

I’m not even one to go for the Legacy Path in question, but I’m still very unhappy that one of the main “victories” of the Age is neutered on this map.

I don’t like how this almost forces the player to rely on circumstances out of their control (or play Mongolia, I guess). Can you try and squeeze the required number of Settlements onto the islands? Yes, but doing so is disproportionately more effort than just doing the Homeland-based Paths (Science and Culture).

Having guaranteed Distant Lands Settlements to conquer is much better for the way the Path is currently designed.

That being said, having “hemisphere parity” and a true Pangaea map has been long overdue. I’m happy about this addition, just unhappy with the way it and existing systems clash.

It’d be nice if the Legacy Path were tweaked to accommodate map types like this, especially since I suspect a Terra Map is coming in the future.

It's gonna become apparent very soon if the map scripts make enough islands for this to be a problem or not. Pretty sure it can be balanced via map scripts rather than anything else.

How on earth is the Exploration Age Military Legacy Path going to work if there aren’t Settlements to conquer in the Distant Lands to start with?
You get points for self founded settlements
and for religion…just need to pump out 6 settlers and missionaries.
Looking at the map examples they give, its got space for 10-20 settlements on the islands.

The Exploration paths are going to be a lot harder on that map. But I'd be very tempted to try a Charlemagne/Carthage game to see if you can complete an antiquity domination. Or maybe Oblique/Persia if you want infantry domination. Especially since you can raze a bunch of cities en route, you can clear out the bad location spots without nearly the same penalty.

Judging from my current game, it doesn’t seem like Exploration legacies are that much harder. In fact, the Economic path seems easier, because with Distant Lands limited to only island chains, we are now again seeing treasure resources distributed in clusters - and no land-locking. And there are plenty of islands to settle to get the Military path peacefully.

It’s just a sample size of one game, but what I saw seems promising.

Yeah I noticed the treasure distribution was much better also, although haven't checked if it's changed similarly on other map types. I could've completed the economic legacy path if I hadn't been too successful in the other paths and run out of time, but nobody else could've made any progress as I claimed all the good treasure resource spots very early (and conquered the remaining ok spots).

The cultural legacy path was much easier with everyone on the same continent and most settlements already revealed, got the necessary number of relics very quickly.
