I know huts are very random but they are one of my favorite parts of the early game. Nothing like scoring a free builder or relic from the first hut, or getting those sweet double boost huts later in the game.

I remember sometime ago Victoria posted a chart showing the odds of getting various rewards from huts and how it changed over the course of the game, e.g. the amount of faith and Gold going up as turn number increased. Just wondering if anyone had figured it out for the new expansion know that there are additional types of rewards such as diplomatic favor, envoys, and horses.

Yeah, if possible I let my Scout heal to 100hp before opening a hut to eliminate that option!

Based on the old chart I also would pause outside a hut if say it was turn 39, knowing on turn 49 the ceiling for gold or faith rewards goes higher. One game I even saved 4 huts until turn 120 hoping for boosts to expensive techs/civics but ended up with a Scout, done gold, and XP.

There is nothing like "Your unit has been healed" :cringe:
Oh I disagree... “your unit has been promoted” is equally sublime.
I do remember dashing a damaged scout into a goody hut next to a camp thinking that even if I just get heal I’ll survive, and I got promoted... just not to where I wanted.
I can drag out the latest if interested, not much has changed.

Victoria I would be interested. Always nice to learn more of the inner workings of the game. It is like a game within the game to know how things work.

@Minou
All types have the same chance of being chosen
There is no memory in what you have been given (you can get 3 scouts or envoys in a row)
Recon units get 5 XP for each goody hut
You get 1 era point for finding each goody hut up to the medieval period
The difficulty rating does effect goody hut chances (you get a settler quite often on easy difficulties but never on high difficulties) but not sure by how much.
The choice of goody hut depends on up to 3 random rolls. (helps better interpreting the table below for the odds)

The chance of getting a relic is 2.25% but before turn 30 it is over 3%

Wow I did not know you could get a Governor title out of a hut - that would be fun. Thanks for posting this.
If you look at GOTM the faster players have stripped the world of goody huts ASAP.... either you are not doing that or not playing enough. I have had maybe 5.

I often start with a Scout, so I guess I am just unlucky. Although if I am doing the math properly the odds are only 2% and slightly lower than that accounting for the fact many huts will be taken before T30 when that reward unlocks. I’ll look forward to getting one eventually!

Do you get different (better) rewards for using a scout than a different unit?
I always just assumed this was the case, but I'm not sure. Maybe it was the case in a different civ game and it just stuck with me?

Nope, a scout and a warrior are both military units and so have the same odds.
If you trigger a hut another way, like with a builder/settler or settling I am fairly sure it does not count as a unit and so travelling the oceans with a builder rather than a scout gains you a subset and may be considered better because of it.
So for example your early relic chance goes up to about 4% (woooo) but a more sensible one would be you chance of getting a tech/civic is 2/5 rather than 2/7

Nice to know! I did not realize a Builder can’t pop another Builder for example.
