Trouble playing online

I want to play with my friends online, and have an easy time playing with one, but when the other tries to join, i get this message. "An incoming player has failed to connect to you and is unable to join the game. Please verify theat your firewall allows incoming connections to Civilization IV." I have Windows Firewall, and I have already put civ as an exception, then I tried turning my firewall off. He also turned his firewall off. What the heck? Can someone help me out?

I have the exact same problem with as the OP. I've played online before, i Can definately tell you it's the firewall.

Since the last time I played on-line I have installed patch 1.61.


There are two or three topics on this forum from people with the same problem as us, any chance one of you guys could help us out.

Well my problem is not being able to get on the civ4 server it wont connect at all and it was only after I installed the new patch v1.61 that I started having this problem. but i'm glad i'm not the only one having problems with the online version of the game after installing the new patch.
