I recently played a multiplayer game (WHY does it have to be so slow to do things?), and I found that a lot of dialogs that should come up don't. Specifically, any one that gives you a choice is nixxed, as are a couple others. So you can't refuse to accept a culture flipped city (one of my partners took my other partner's city wtihout having any say), you can't choose to raze a city instead of keeping it, you can't select the new build choice from the popup box (because it never happens; but of course you can do it manually), you can't pick what your next science advance will be, etc.
Heck, the popups that do happen only happen once, even if they apply multiple times. I had several cities in disorder while switching governments, but the popup only happened for one city. It was terrible; I felt like I had to babysit every single city every turn in order for them to stop doing stupid things, like having a corrupt, 1 shield city try, for the umpteenth time, to make JS Bach's Cathedral (which was already being built by one of my partners).
I could not figure out any way to change this behavior; turning off "show fewer multiplayer popups" seemed to let the few through that did, but still skipped all the ones I really wanted. If it's possible, I hope someone is so kind as to tell us all how.
And general_kill, if you abandon a city, you don't get the slave worker bonus that you get from razing. If the original poster just wanted to win by conquest and not have to worry about managing a bunch of useless cities, then your suggestion would be right on the spot, of course. But if you can get some free workers out of it, why not?
