I'm trying to find a song from Civ 6, it might be an ambient theme, for France I believe. It had a faster, more lively melody than the usual songs for France. I've been looking for months, and I can't find it on Youtube. It tends to play when things start getting busy in-game. My description probably sucks, but does anyone maybe know what I'm talking about? Thanks.

The ambient themes for France are less lively than the regular theme for France, so I doubt that's it to be honest.

If you go to "\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Base\Platforms\Windows\audio" and open Music_bank.xml in Note Pad, and use ctrl+F to find "France", you can find all the numbers corresponding to France's themes.
Those numbers belong to the .wem files in the same folder, which are the songs. You can convert the .wem songs and listen to them.

This sounds like a lot of work, but it really isn't. This way I have made the whole of CIV VI as a soundtrack for myself : )

Alternatively, you can elaborate on your description by using instruments to clarify your search a bit more : )

Also, songs change upon era change. So if it starts to play later in the game, it's most certainly not an ambient song (they stay the same), so it must be a theme. If you can tell us around which era it would be, it would make the search MUCH easier. "when things start getting busy in-game" is not really anything. Busy can mean classical era, busy can mean information era.

Also, next time you hear it, write down which Civs are in the game. That narrows it down greatly as well.

Thank you! I know I had very little info to share. I should have paid more attention in game, but was probably busy trying to pillage and rustle!

I used Divinity Sound Converter.

It happens : ) Have you been able to find it by now?

The channel that Gorgonzolaaridos mentioned. Very handy!

Actually, now that the topic's up, I was going through all of the CIV VI music files recently (as I was assembling a mix CD of some of my favorite tracks), and I noticed a couple of files that don't appear in the peaches lamb library on YouTube. They're generally short (usually less than a minute) and simple flute pieces, and I seem to recall hearing these at the very start of a game, usually before you start meeting other civs... so I suppose they're just incidental background music not affiliated with any civ, that just play in the background until you start meeting other civs.

At nearly 1800 hours in the game, and many hours digging through the files and listening to them without playing the game (e.g. while driving), I can't say I recognise what you're saying. I have -all- files coded by name (there is a bank file for that too, you can't miss anything that way), and there are no files left. There were some files that had no sound at all, and I don't know what they were for, but they also don't have any corresponding name in the bank. Aside from that, all files belong to certain civs.

All civs have their own ambient themes, and they start as soon as you settle your first city. There are no general flute themes for all civs. In fact, if you play Maori vs Maori, you won't hear a flute in the game at all. I don't remember flutes in Brazil, Spain, Australia, Zulu, Cree, either, and that's just from the top of my head, so there could be more.
So yeah, if you play a game with Maori, Brazil, America, Greece, Spain, Australia, Zulu and Cree, you won't hear a flute. Especially not at the beginning.

France has a flute from the start, so does Khmer, Nubia, Egypt, Norway and probably a couple of others.

Well, I usually play as Egypt or France, so that explains it... I still didn't hear them on the aforementioned YouTube channel though. When I have some time I'll try to find the actual files.

There are some files that are labeled without the Civ name in it, and I think some of them are Egypt ambient tracks. They are indeed not in the Peaches Lamb's playlist on YT.

@James_Champagne @TheMarshmallowBear @riddleofsteel uploading a 7zip archive with mp3 versions of the songs to Mega as we speak. Will post it here as soon as it's done.

Yeah, someone on here posted a file/program that was supposed to tell you the names of the tracks, but my computer kept blocking me from downloading it, so I just had to listen to each one and then compare them to the Peaches Lambs playlist. What tripped me up in a few cases is there are, say, songs for the Zulus that the game chops into 3 parts, but which were fused as one song on the aforementioned playlist. I did eventually manage to find all the ones I wanted, though.

Oh, and Vandlys, thanks for uploading that ZIP archive, it simplifies things immensely. The flute tracks I was referring to are the Egyptian ones as you note, specifically "Ney Only," "Ney Game Begin 2," and "Oud Ney Drum."

Looking at that list I can see some other things not included in the YouTube playlist, such as certain Sumerian songs: for some reason they only have the 4 main Sumerian themes, but none of the Sumerian ambient tracks.

The file where you can find the titles of the songs is Music_Bank.xml in ":\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Base\Platforms\Windows\audio" Naturally, replace Base for the expansions with the folder of the expansion, but the rest is virtually the same.

I named all files after these songs. Took some time, but least I can do is save you guys the trouble. Enjoy listening to this amazing music!

Hoping that it'll include a cut song from France that I remember hearing when Yogcast had the pre-release preview with France! It was SO beautiful and I was shocked to see it cut.

I suspect it is this:

Because it's the track that took me forever to hunt down.
