TSFE: Red Storm Rising

To: The Glorius Leader of the Proletariat, keeper of the Revolution, Administrator of Germany and Italy, Comrade Marshall Stalin.

From: Field Marshall Grennady Zhukov, Field Commander of the Central France Soviet Army, Commander of the STAVKA.

Subject: Operation First Strike.

Comrade Stalin,
At first sucess was mixed. In France, we managed to take all the primary objectives for August. However, Allied resistance and numbers were far stronger than had been initially estimated. While our superior forces prevailed, we lost several T-34's and Katyusha divisions. At this time, we worried if the Allies had reinforcements necessary for a counter-attack. In Greece, severe fighting wore out the entire Army among Grecian front. Not one unit recieved rest. Athens was captured, but the two other cities remain in Allied hands. Sucess was quicker in Italy and Corsica. Napoli easily fell, and Calgari on the island of Corsica was taken.
Fortunately, our attacks had engaged and destroyed signifigant portions of the allied army. Counter-attacks were weakly coordinated. The only casaulties were inflicted by the massive enemy B-29's, though many were intercepted and shot down by Yak-9's before they could reach their targets.
Following August, the entire Allied West Front collapsed. The neary surrounded Paris was pounded into submission. Our troops put on a parade that put the fascist show of force four years ago to shame. Apparently, all of the Allied power was deployed at the border with us, with none in reserve, though there were several Sherman groups near Cherbourg, sent from England. Our troops were shocked to find the famed Dunkirk, which never fell against the Fascists, to be defended only by Homeguard! Not only was seizing the city easy, but we managed to destroy several cruisers, destroyers, and submarines of the British and American navies by doing so!
Army Group Northern France continued their push along the coast, driving to Cherbourg. The smaller army Group Southern France, after some rest, strike from Orleans and captured St. Naizaire and Brest. All of France is now liberated! Also, we the new ports, especially the one in St. Naizaire has provided new support to the Soviet Navy, and their movement rates have been increased by 2.

In Greece, after some rest and destroying an Allied B-29, attacks from Athens easily captured the other two Grecian cities.
The war in Norway against the remains of the Fascists continues to go way, and we have now advanced to Narvik. A secondary attack from Denmark will soon seize the entire country.
With the arrival of winter, I still believe it is to our advantage to continue the offensive and quickly invade England. Our army is faster and stronger in the winter than they are. We could easily seize many English channel ports, perhaps London itself, before the summer hits. Once summer starts, we will be able to launch normal offensive operations and seize the rest of the country, effectively destroying the main source of Allied power.

There are some areas of concern. The demoralized Fascist cities in North Africa are easily being taken by allied forces. Also, the Allies may wish to launch an attack from Baghdad to Tblisi, though we have now rushed KV-85's and foritified them in the mountains. The allied Air Fleets can still strike from Crete, Allied Sicily, and Malta. Thus we should attempt to seize these islands soon before advancing into North Africa proper. But these would be secondary attacks, as our primary focus is to liberate England Proper.
Also, the last known status of the Allied nuclear weapon program showed they still needed two more advances. But this was a while ago, so they may achieved these advances. Our only warning would be of news that the allies were commencing tests somewhere. If so, that site should immediatly be listed as a priority to capture.

In short, Comrade Stalin, we have achieved yet another great victory. But we still need some more great victories before we can achieve Lenin's dream.

Excerpted from the book "The Great Patriotic War", Chapter VII "The Fall of Great Britain", now required reading material in all Soviet Classrooms.

"When 1945 started, the Allies still possessed the ability to stop the Red Army. Though they had lost France, as Churchill reminded the troops, "This has happened before." Mainland Britain was infested with Shermans, Churchills, Cromwells, and Comets. The B-29's were still being produced, and the Soviet's supply of full strength Yak-9's were dwindling, and their La-5's were inadequate for defense. General Eisenhower had headquartered himself in London, amongst the massive Island fortifications. The new M-26 Pershing tanks were beggining to come on-line, and these could match a Soviet IS-1. Also, the Allies still held the initiative in North Africa, where the Axis was slowly losing all of its cities there. And if the Allies could cement an alliance amongst the Spanish, the remaining Free French cities, and the sleeping neutrals, the Red Army would face attacks on all fronts.

Alas, this great potentiol was mis-used in what has been considered the greatest diplomatic blunder in history.

In January of 1945, the first Soviet T-34 divisions began landing outside on the only unfortified land in Southern England, a small plane located between Portsmouth and England. The Soviets managed to seize Portsmouth. However, they lost numerous tanks and katyushas. Also, 3/4's of the army in England was too exhausted and weak to move behind Portsmouth's defenses. Also, 5/6's of Soviet forces were still France, and unable to cross as tonnage was still limited to three freighters. One Sherman attack from London could have destroyed the stacked and exhausted Red Army. Secondary attacks from more Shermans and Cromwell's in London could have easily retaken Portsmouth, and deal the Red Army a fatal blow. But, this did not happen.

Instead, the British government panicked at the news that Portsmouth was occupied. Without consulting Churchill, a cease-fire was offered. Before Churchill could regain control, the always ingenious Comrade Stalin, hardly believing his stroke of luck, signed the cease-fire. This doomed England.

For three months, the Soviets resupplied Portsmouth, until nearly the entire Red Army was over. (Out of character:As spring turned, my KV-85's turned into worthless and obsolute tanks. They were a lot of basis for my defense, so can this be changed? I don't think advanced units should be upgraded to be obsolete.)
In April, the offensive began. The mighty T-34's, katyusha's, IS-2's and Is-3's, the new SU-100 assault guns, and even the cursed obsolete tanks assaulted London. General Zhukov lead one attack, where he personally encountered a detatchment of tanks under a stunned Eisenhower's command. The battle fierce, and legend has it that Zhukov and Eisenhower engaged in hand to hand combat (how rare that a 1:1 fight occur in modern war.) In the end, Zhukov's group was victorious, though the General was rushed to a field hospital, as he was greatly injured.

London failed, and the exhausted Red Army troops moved in. A small force was detatched and garrisoned a small fortress in a hill outside of the city. Pe-2's and stolen meteor fighters ravaged the relief troops arriving from the rest of the island.
The Allies had lost half of their island army in this fight. They counterattack was fierce, and the fortress was retaken, but they failed to penetrate London's weakened defenses. They even failed to attack the stacked units outside of London, which reached the safety of the city the next month.

With the fall of London, and the counter-attacks reppelled, the Allied Army in England was decimated. Only a few Sherman's remained. The Soviets resumed the attack, and surprisingly found little resistance. In May, Oxford was taken, along with the two Western cities in England. In June, the English Army collapsed, and full breakout was achieved. In July, the last city in Scotland in fell.

Secondary attacks against English targets during this time were mixed. All of Sicily and Crete were taken. However, another attack out of Georgia aimed at Mosul was defeated. The mountains have now been foritified, and the troops there would have to be on the defensive for some time to come. Also, Soviet troops operating out of Northern Norway, in conjunction with amphibious landings from Denmark, seized central Norway. The entire country is now in the gentle bosum of their comrade liberators.

With mainland Britain gone, the Allies could not win the war. They had lost their main production base, their main scientific base, and their own seat of government. Any hopes for alliance fell through as the Spanish, sensing an oppurtunity, attacked French North Africa.
As for the Soviet plans, Belast was isolated and would soon fall. From their secondary Soviet forces could take the two Allied islands, and prepare for a possible attack on the USA itself.
However, the main Soviet army that had conquered England would need to be transferred to North Africa to fight the allies, who had taken almost all of those cities by the Axis. But there was no direct route, and Comrade Stalin did not want to limit himself to tonnage across the sea, open to B-29 attacks. Instead, the it was decided the Red Army would move through Spain, and then French North Africa, before they encountered any Allied cities.
But these campaigns will be detailed in chapter VIII, "The Iberian campaign."

P.S. Yes I am going to get a third enemy and attack the Spanish. But they are small, and I dislike having them by my French border. It's a good thing they attacked French North Africa. I'm going to win this the long way, as destroying them later would require some turns and require moving the entire army.

Chapter VIII: The Iberian Campaign.

The offensive was launched in early August, 1945. Slower stationary engaged and easily defeated the spanish border defenses, while faster units proceeded down the roads from Marseilles and Bordeaux.
After the border collapsed, Spanish resistance was surprisingly weak. No pillboxes had been erected, and Spain could only draw on weak light tanks for counter-attacks. Their national troops were no match for even Red Army and NKVD troopers.
In the first month alone, Barcelona, Valencia, Zaragoza, Bilboa, and Palma fell. Palma fell by T-34's landed nearby, that quickly overpowered their weak defenses. Palma was also the center of Spain's few bombers that were operating against the French, and these were systematically destroyed as well.
The only effective resistance was not of Spanish but of Allied origin. The Allies diverted their B-29's from Soviet landings in North Africa in an attempt to keep the Spanish fighting. While one T-34 division and some Red Army soldiers were killed, the B-29's were also destroyed by Red Air Force, a valiant effort considering they only thought they would be engaging the nearly non-existant Spanish Air Force.
By September, all of mainland Spain was occupied. As winter fell, the hardest part of the campaign began, the attack on the Allied stronghold on Gilbratar.

Gilbratar was located on a high mountain, and had a three layered pillbox defensive system. But the Red Army could not ignore its presense, as it would be a constant threat to the supply lines if the army continued into North Africa. The battle was exceptionally bloody, as the katyusha artillery was committed first. Though six batteries were destroyed, they had severely weakened the pillboxes. A suicide attack by the recently arrived IS-3 "Kazan" corps further weakend the pillboxes. When the T-34's were finally committed, Allied defenses collapsed.

After this, the last major action against the Spanish was an amphibious assault on Tanger in December, which was taken at no cost to the Red Army.

Other fronts were relatively quiet during this time. The newly built battleships of the Red Navy (laid down in 1942), batterred the unfortified allied city of Torshvan, and the newly formed paratrooper division seized the island.

Beachheads were established in North Africa, by way of Italy and Greece. Tripolis, Al Khums, Benghzai, and Darnah were captured. Resistance was encountered, including a new allied jet fighter. In response production of Yak-9's were once again increased.

In Chapter IX, the final North African campaign will be discussed.

P.S. Anybody reading this. I'll take any response.

Chapter IX of the Great Patriotic War: The Final Victory...

The African front reopened in 1946 as soon as the snow melted.

The French colonial troops were ill-equipped to deal with the elite forces of the Red Army. In two months, all of French North Africa was seized.
Meanwhile, in a twist of ironic fate, the last axis city was isolated in the mountains of Algeria. This city did not prove to be out of reach of T-34's, and thus the once mighty axis alliance, which dared invade the Rodina itself, was destroyed in the dirty sands of French North Africa.
Against the Allies, the news was mixed. All of North Africa up to El-Alemain was captured. However, the Allies had powerfull units stationed in Egypt. Later, it was estimated that this army rivaled the power of the former army in England. This mighty force counter-attacked and expelled the Red Army from El-Alemain.

But the greatest glory was yet to come. Portugal had, fearful of being isolated by Soviet-controlled Spain, had organized a sleeping alliance of Sweden, Switzerland, and Turkey as a way to halt the workers advancing power. Comrade Stalin easily found out what was happening, and the results were quick and decisive.

In May, all of Portugal and Switzerland were conqured. Sweden requried two months to conquer. Turkey, though actually bordering the Rodina itself, took a little longer, as Allied B-29 slowed down the offenisve.

The Allies launched several surprise attacks from the Atlantic into Spain. Numerous Shermans were destroyed by the initially bewildered T-34 crews, that had been patiently waiting to be assigned to North Africa. But this merely rushed plan "Americana."

As a preliminary measure, Iceland was seized. Then, a mighty task force of three battleships, four freighters (containing T-34's and katyusha's) sailed to US mainland. The decadent Americans were easily caught by surprise, and thus lost their great port of New York. However, Comrade Stalin realized any further advance into the United States would be nearly impossible do to pressing needs elsewhere, and that the American populace was sure to foolishly but fiercly resist. Thus, the US was allowed to shamefully exit the war, and concentrate on the Japanese instead.

As part of this plan, a small neutral city south of America joined the neutral alliance. This city was easily destroyed as well.

In another sideshow, enough Pe-2's had finally been prepared to assault the heavily fortified island of Malta at last. Though many planes were shot down by pillboxes and spitfires, once more the Red Army was triumphant.

Back in Egypt, the Red Army regrouped in a fortress near El-Alemain, and received further reinforcement from Europe and from the fast T-34's transferred from Soviet-controlled Algeria.

The last great battle then occured, as the T-34's once more advanced. El-Alemian was destroyed in the fighting. The Red Army continued to push, and while taking casaulties, managed to secure Alexandria. After a month of merely beating off the Allied counter-attack, the final assault quickly seized Cairo, Suez, and El-Arish from the Allies. In fact, Soviet forces in Egypt were now able to link up with the Soviet forces that had finally descended from the urals and had taken Mosul and Baghdad.
The army in Iraq itself was able to link up with the army that had recently conquered Turkey. Thus, in October of 1946, the unholy alliance against the motherland was completely surrounded and crippled.
The ending was anti-climatic.

T-34's from Turkey seized Cyprus. IS-3's took Tel Aviv and Lebanon, while the Baghdad army took Damascus. Though in a sense the French were the first power to be destroyed in this war, their colonial city of Damascus was the last one conquered.

Thus, the great workers of the Soviet managed to export the revolution to Europe, North Africa, and even the money obsessed Americans. Now faithful student, is your duty to not fail your ancestors, and expand the revolution even more. Fail not, for the Rodina still calls you.

P.S.S. Sun Tzu, I've never played multiplayer before. I don't have a lot of free time because of AP's and senior exams (and even though I have senoritis, I still want to do well (yes I'm sick.)) Still, sounds like a good idea. Would we play each other, or would I be Soviets, you Allies, and we try to stop Germany (maybe on the hard setting).

Pinky Gen, this has to be the best and most entertaining seiries of posts in this vein i have ever read. As a dedicated player of the Soviet Union and variants, i applaud your glorious victory. LONG LIVE OUR SOVIET MOTHERLAND, BUILT BY THE PEOPLES MIGHTY HAND!
