Welcome to the TSG 204 After Action Report thread. In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state victory date and score (preferably in the post title), as recorded in the Hall of Fame, and the most important: your path to glory!
STOP - Please do not continue reading this thread until you have completed and submitted your game.
Please attach your final, first play through, .Civ5Save file, saved AFTER the victory ceremony if you were not conquered (using the "Lemme play one more turn" feature.) In your post.

Interesting scenario! I'll be impressed by anyone who achieves victory.

Retired defeated 1270AD. Was WAY behind on score and number of cities, was ignoring western lands and aiming to dominate eastern lands. Persuaded the rivals to war with each other, and was hoping that would give me some chance at taking on the north-eastern rival. But my attempt to begin my grand conquest by taking Melbourne was a fail, with Melbourne actually taking one of my cities instead :-(

Turn 296 Domination victory.
I was surprised when I discovered my opponents, because I expected other nations.
I prioritized Patronage, because there were 36 CS. That gave me nice bonuses. This was the first time I used more policies in Autocracy.
Map was nice. I settled only the best locations. Later I settled more cities to secure more uranium for myself, and also like bases for missile rebase.
In the end I launched two war campaigns, Black Lightning and Red Lightning, near seas of these colours :) I took AI capitals using XCOM and nuclear missiles launched from missile cruisers. This was the first time I nuked AI.
I had some weird bug slowing unit movement, and even more slowing changing unit focus, during one turn, but game recovered after that.

Lost the game at t310

It seemed appropriate to write a report today (April 1st). This was a strange and sometimes confusing game with announcements like: Rome has replaced Rome as ….
The AI spammed so much cities, at some point they could not even be bothered to name their cities anymore

There was so much space to settle. I settled 9 cities and went for Liberty. I like to play wide but I seldom manage to make it work. It was nice to play sim city, the two AI’s were at war with each other for most of the game. The plan was to go for a Frigate attack if the AI capitals could be reached by sea. Sadly this was not the case. The capitals are so far away that my land weapons would be obsolete by the time they arrive. Plan B would be to go for nukes combined with X-com’s. The nukes got banned so that was no longer an option.

At turn 310 an AI got a science victory. @beetle pointed out that a DV is still possible after this. In my game this would be pointless, the AI is spamming cities faster than I could raze them and waiting between turns takes longer and longer even before I declared war.

Congrats to @Jovan Kukic for winning this game!

Spoiler Some catching up to do in weapons... :

Congrats to @Jovan Kukic! That may be enough to inspire me to try again. Liberty then Patronage is definitely the way to go.

I lost by Diplomacy to NW Caesar T293. I played almost another 200 turns trying to win DomVC, but I was not really progressing, so gave that up.

Thanks @FritsF1 for sharing that screen shot, hilarious! That is about my relative ranking most games!

Thanks @Knowtalent for another fun and very creative map!

We have met the enemy and he is us.

That was funny. I didn't finish this one since my video card fried but it was fun while it lasted. Was slow going though. Had a hard time getting many cities; and I don't think there was any way I was going to win this one.

If you have problems with slow AI moves, you can set Quick Combat/Quick Movement, which is especially useful during late game if you have many allied CS (which increases your map visibility) and when AI civs have many units. During war, Quick Combat/Quick Movement is not as good as in peace, because seeing battles helps you to better realize which units are attacking you, especially if AI has airplanes.
I'm wondering if you had similar bug to that which I described in game description.

Yep, I always set it to Quck combat and movement after about 25 turns. Large maps always take a long time even on quick. And I have occasionally had the issue you describe where it seems to freeze. It’s just a consequence of the computer having trouble processing the turn I assume.

Turn 274 Domination Victory

With so few other civilizations, took a different approach to a deity start than I normally would. Initial research priority was Pottery ->Writing -> Calendar. The goal here was to support an early Great Library rush in the hope that neither of the other Civs would aim for it. This gamble worked out, and then I switched production of a capital-only National College build. Only after the National College did I finally get my two expands out, the first to the northwest for whales and then to the northeast for silk.

I prioritized growth and food in these three cities. I rushed reciprocal food cargo ships between city 2 and Rome. I got Hanging Gardens late for a deity game around turn 94 which helped growth too.

I was lucky in the early game to get a Great Prophet ruin which helped establish a religion, where I chose tithe and extra 15% production. Much later I added guruship for +2 production with a specialist.

The early game was slowed down by a poor job on my part stealing/rescuing workers. I only managed 3 from the local city states, but took two from Geneva and permanently hampered my influence there.

Science: My science production was helped by having the 2 great scientist points from the Great Library and the 1(?) from the Oracle. I produced two great scientists (GS) early enough that planting Academies seemed like the best option.

The mid-game was about completing as many city-state quests as possible and then getting the scholasticism policy in the patronage tree. That boosted my science output a lot. I got 1 GS from the Porcelain Tower, 2 from faith and 5-6 more naturally. I used Oxford for Radio (I think) and the rationalism finisher to get Plastics. Once all labs were up for about 10 turns I started bulbing the great scientists towards nanotechnology for X-Coms (I had sent a navy of battleships southeast, but once I saw there was no sea access to that capital, a beeline for X-Coms was the most straightforward option).

My bulb rush petered out halfway through the tech prior to nanotech, so it was a 15ish turn wait. During the waiting period I built Brandenburg + barracks + armory in Rome and then was pumping out triple promoted Paratroopers. These were an even mix of Shock x2 and 50% city attach bonus and Drill x2 + city 50%. I used a great engineer to grab the Pentagon and then upgraded about 8 Paratroopers to X-Coms.

I had Prague as an ally, about halfway to the two other capitals, so that was the staging point. Luckily Prague had captured another city so lots of tiles were open to drop into. The northeast capital fell easily. There were few troops adjacent to the capital so I was able to start the siege without mopping up many units. That city fell in 3 turns.

After a few turns of convalescing, the blooded X-coms zipped back to Prague to stage the final assault on the southeast capital (Cumae?). This one was much harder as there were units around the capital and 2-3 attack hexes occupied by water. I had to send in X-coms in waves. After 2 turns I was attacking the city 3-4 times per turn, but I was losing 2-3 units each turn once the airforce was moved back. Occupying the hills the the southeast of the city and the plains to the northwest was important to ensure I could keep up at least 3-4 attacks per turn. This attack took about 8 turns and a good 15-16 X-coms. It was pretty close, but it turned out in the end.

Thanks for a fun map, and a welcome diversion during a recent lockdown here in Nova Scotia :)

- How useful was your UA?
Not at all
- Did you use spying to your advantage?
Yes, nabbed 3-4 techs.
- Did the map type help or hinder victory and how?
It helped because the early game was totally pacifist, but the logistics to the other capitals was a real challenge.
- How did the difficulty level affect your game decisions?
Between the map and the difficulty, I knew any attacks would be made with late game units, so I planned my science strategy around that.
- What Social Policies did you choose and in what order? Which Ideology did you choose?
Tradition, Patronage open and philanthropy, Rationalism (open plus the good 3), scholasticism, finish Rationalism, Freedom tenets
- What techs did you prioritize ?
Writing, Education, science techs on the way to the final goal of nanotech.
- What did you think of the map and settings?
Great challenge. Definitely something new.
