TSG55 Opening Actions Thread

Wow. I've never played with Spain before. That UA is crazy. I found 2 wonders first, netting me like 900 gold. Insane. Bought 2 settlers with that.

I'm at about turn 70-80, Scouted the whole landmass (started w/ double scout), have 4 cities settled, but I haven't really gone to war yet. I took a Ethiopian worker early, but did a neutral peace deal a couple turns later as I hadn't built an army yet, and Ethiopian warriors were blocking where I wanted to plop my 4th city.

I hardbuilt 1 worker, took 2 from CSs and built the Pyramids after I finished the GL(philo), so I have 6 workers going right now. Tried to take another CS worker with a scout upjumped to archer, and ended up firing on him instead (doh)

I have a feeling I'm spending too much time focused on buildings and improvements when I should be pumping army. I went 4 city tradition out of habit. I really am not used to going for fast domination. I'm just now getting a good force together, 4-5 archers on the move toward the faith wonder where I put my 4th city. I'll upgrade to CB there and get to warring. Saving all my gold for upgrades now.

Went with +4 faith from wonders as my pantheon, should get a religion pretty quick with that. Again, I think I probably should be focused more on just all out war, but I'll make it work...

I'm set up and ready for war now, if I stay focused on that I should do alright. Hope to finish with Conquistadors and XBs. Guess I'll need astronomy too.

Anybody else find Hanoi's Legions handy? :)

Managed to stay friends/allied with them for most for the game, was gifted about six over the course of the game (had to settle Cordoba east of addis ababa on the coast to get four iron). Built great library and picked iron working so was able to rush Ethopia then Byzantium, Siam and India with 4/5 Composite bows and 3 legions, (later five of six i think) and a swordsman. Also got a few samurai later on.

Got about 4 free workers early on (2 from byzantium, 1 from india and 1 from Ethopia), the AI kept sending out settlers with no escort so they were snatched by barbs so I destroyed the camps and kept the settler/worker.

No. I made a point to ally with them and I got 2 or 3 Legions, but they were marginally useful. I used a legion along with 3 cats and a few other troops to capture Dehli. The Legion in rough was tough enough to survive the city range fire. But beyond that, meh.

I've been a long time away from Civ but thought I'd get back in with this Warlord level GoTM. I took liberty (Republic - Collective Rule - Citizenship) and founded two cities right away. I immediately started spamming warriors and archers and later spearmen, horse archers and horsemen.

Unfortunately I didn't find Mt. Kalish until much later so I didn't get a chance to settle near there. Perhaps I will plop a city down next to it when I get back to playing.

Took out Ethiopia and Byzantium, next up is Siam. I forgot how hard it is to take cities in Civ V. Luckily I brought 3 warriors and 3 archers when I went after Ethiopia. I went to war a little earlier than I would have liked because of a juicy settler steal that I couldn't pass up.

Religion is new for me. I took Goddess of the hunt as my pantheon because of the camp opportunities near the capital (settled in place). I'm interested what other people took for theirs...

I feel like I'm teching pretty slowly. Perhaps I need to build some libraries (I don't think I even have writing yet) I'm researching Iron working now. Was planning on taking over the continent before going into builder mode.

I haven't completed a full game of GoK yet (this will be my first ever) so I'm pretty new to all the changes. Any advice would be appreciated!
