Tupac08 - Simply Sid

I think I would need some practise first, I haven't played this for 4-5 years and I have to find the disc too. :)

Also, I over-ruled ppl alot of the times when I played, which is not a nice thing....until you won?

If I find the disc I install the game over the weekend and give myself a Deity training game, 5CC.

And if I recover some of the skills by then, I will humbly ask Tupac to join me.

But no sign-up yet, I forgot most of this game frankly....except the micro-managing, which still buzzes through my head when I play Civ5, and there is none! :)

And thank you for your nice comments, I was away for a reason or rather 2 reasons and a welcome back is so nice to see. :)

I found the box, but it was empty!

So my scatterbrain ideas is to buy it online...5 bucks as Complete on a site or Steam as well as Complete and 5 dollars too.

To get another box is good, then you have it! But then, Steam haven't done a wrong thing to me so far, so I might just get the download Complete version. But how do you tell a game that is dled, that I want to play a specific version?

Never tried it before. And to get a proper box can take 2 weeks....

@Goz - if you can get it working then let me know. Even if we're close to wrapping this one up by then you might be interested in joining the next game?

@Daeron - don't feel pressured with time, but a 'got it' would be good just to know you're on your way

Here's the turnlog and save. We got 3 more armies and we razed Canton. Settlers are in place to settle the region. I didn't want to tie up so many armies merely for settlers, but if we want to make peace, we need to settle the empty space now before making peace. And I really do think we need to make peace, we can finish them off in 20 turns. I got hit by WW in the very first IBT, and we're running way too much lux considering the amount of luxuries we have.

I suggest settling the gap in the next turn, make peace and go straight for Korea and then the Mongols. Though we might also want to take Shanghai first to make sure we got all the saltpetre.

Ohh and the incans have been destroyed so I renewed the saltpetre deal with the Babylonians. As far as I can tell Portugal is the only one to have reached industrialization and universal suffrage so far.

We might want to consider renewing peace with Babylon and buy astronomy that way, but it's not certain China has physics.

Spoiler :

What the hell?? I get a new stage of war weariness. Must have been from having troops inside enemy borders.
Move lux to 30 %. Most our tax farms are useless in this state. Maastricht will lose some off its food for 3 turns, but I had to rush marketplace there.

I dislike our troop placement, I have 2 armies completely cut off from the rest of the troops, the one that is there is still recovering.
Sell barracks in Lauwersoog

Sell banking to the americans for 21 gpt and 95 gold.

My current goal is to make one more push against the Chinese, then make peace.

kill a rider on defense (16-17)

Amsterdam mil. academy -> army
Lawuwersoog settler -> settler
New Utrecht Settler -> settler
New Gronignen settler -> settler

turning it over to the next player, all these armies make me want to hurt the vhinese, but perhaps we should make peace so we can drop the luxury slider.

Edit: I didn't MM in the last turn, rotterdam for one will riot the next turn, so next player take a look at the happiness.

tupac: I still can't find the disc, but I'll get another one somehow. And of course I would love to play another game in the best of the series. :)

If you're not impatient, it might take me a couple of weeks to get a legit copy, otherwise I would've been playing already. I respect Civ3 too much to muck around.

My suggestion for next game: Deity and 5CC, ( I think I love this combination more than my wife) :lol:

"and i'm sure she threw that disc away"

I'll keep you updated, mate!

I guess if we can get the dyes and salpeter under our control we can make peace with china for a tech discount then either a rapid war with Korea before swicthing to mongols, or war with the mongols

How does the elimination of the Incans effect our trading rep, does it make it worse? Because we cant buy techs of people at war with the Incans.

I think that having the Inca gone will make trading hard goods for gpt impossible with anyone.

Congratulations on the three leaders.

I've got it.

Is it not tupaclives up next? Or is he on a skip

We could consider the Babylonians, renew the peace and buy a tech that way. The question is if we try it before or after making peace with the Chinese. Last I checked they weren't in the industrial age yet, but you'd think they'd have physics by now. They have been taking a lot of heat though, no telling what that has done to their tech pace.

@Goz - that sounds good. It might be better too, at this stage, for you to jump in on the next game rather than in the final stretch of this one.

@CKS - I think you'll find I'm up ;)

Consider this a got it!

Pre-Flight

I agree with Daeron about peace sooner rather than later but I'd like to try and take out Shanghai and their saltpeter, as well as get ourselves a source of dyes.
Oh, and China definitely has physics as they're in the Industrial Age! :crazyeye:

Renewal of Peace Treaty + 575 gold + 76gpt buys us astronomy.
Pick off a few chinese stragglers (6:0) including 2 settlers for more slaves.

IBT - Kill a Chinese LB on the defence without a scratch

Turn 1: The Hague: Cav --> Cav. Kill 3 Chinese LB (9:0). Move forces into position to a) settle the gap and b) take out Shanghai.

IBT - zzz. We cop another bout of WW.

Turn 2: Haarlem: Cav --> Cav. Pick off some stragglers (12:0). Found New Holwerd (Settler in 30) to claim Gems, and New Middleburg to claim space. Attack Shanghai. (15:0) run out of attacks but there is only an unfortified lb visible now...

IBT - looks like China may have reinforced Shanghai...

Turn 3: Groningen: Cav --> Cav. Leerdam: Settler --> Settler. Middleburg: Cav --> Cav. Leiden: Settler --> Settler. Dan Helder: Cannon --> Cannon.

This time we make no mistakes and Shanghai burns (18:0) :scan:

picture77.png

Just for good measure I burn Tienstin too :D (22:0)

picture78t.png

That's good enough for me. I get ready to make peace with China.

Then I have a thought...

I pause here to let the team weigh in.

We could buy Physics from the mongols for Peace Renewal + Iron + Saltpeter and I suspect we could then buy either ToG or Magnetism fairly easily from China for peace. The trouble is that then delays our warmongering aspirations of liberating our entire continent.

What does the team reckon?

When is our peace treaty with mongols up for renewal

When is our peace treaty with mongols up for renewal

It's already past renewal, we can declare whenever we want.

If we renew peace now, it still might cost us too many turns, considering Korea is only 3 cities. Why not make the trade with Portugal instead? We could take a risk with the gpt, considering making peace with China will free up a lot of coin that is wasted on happiness.

I think the time is ripe to go after the mongols, perhaps after Korea though, if we can get techs of the Portugese, though I am not sure if we really want to pump money into the powerful portugese.

The thing with trading with the portugese is
a) we don't really want to support them if we can help it
b) we will have to pay extra for techs from them due to them being more powerful and the need to use a peace treaty renewal in making gpt deals

I can't see your empire's worth in cropped pictures, but I guess it's sustainable?

So spies towards a pretty strong empire and steal a tech or two, if lucky? After you signed a good deal of course. It is very legit to do this, but also have the risk that that big empire hire other nations against you.

So, what are your opinions about spies? I used them frequently in my old games and got slightly hammered a few times, but with the right setup, you kill 10-1.

Just a thought, as I can't see what money you have.

I don't want to lock us in to 20 turns with the Mongols. I also don't want to give Portugal anything.

I'm okay with trying to steal techs, or not trying. (Is it possible to steal from a civ you are at war with? I've never actually tried to steal tech, although I contemplated it in this month's deity GOTM, where I also ended up with a blown reputation through little fault of my own.) I think I'd rather take physics from China than either dealing with the Mongols or the Portuguese.
