First off, Kentonio responded saying that the warrior was in place to protect Elucidian interests, and will likely stay there for a bit.

We got 25g from a disbanded barb camp, and FortyJ hammered out out a plan for laborer movement and granary building. I'll ask him to post a summary of that plan.

We also agreed upon a rather drastic science plan. Research rates were increaed to 90%, causing iron working to be done in 2 turns. However, we will be losing 3gpt. We felt that we could finance this with the first barb camp, and a second we'll have in two turns.

sounds like an intelligent plan! Great work D-P's!

Very good strategy with the heavy research. Whenever I get a load of cash from barbarians, I go into deficit. Keep on researching until your treasury is about to run out, then kick it back up again.

Often in the early game I stay in deficit until AD. The treasury is only really needed when you start upgrading units.

I think I understand Elucidia's quick change in protecting the landbridge. There must be Iron, that has just popped up for them sicne they got IW, and it is outside their borders. They must not have enough units to protect all their cities or resources, and they obviously aren't trustworthy of us enough yet. Im getting back onto the phones to see what I can do.

If they aren't going to allow us past, then we should insist that their warrior vacate our lands as well.

We need to get past so that we can get into contact with Apolyton. Perhaps we can explain to them that one 3/3 warrior isn't much of a threat to them and that we are interested solely in exploration and in making contact with Apolyton. I consider this a matter of national security.

I concure with FortyJ. Our powerfull map-industry is very interested in new lands to put on maps.

Contact with Apolyton would serve us well too

I think we should try and work this out before we ask them to vacate our lands. Remember, we need to be on Elucidia's good side. This sudden change of heart on their side though, makes me think they are up to something. Still no response on my last letter though. Ill keep you guys informed.

I'm pretty sure that land bridge is two tiles wide (in the sense that you can cross at one point, and the diagonal tile near it at another)

The land bridge does narrow down to a single tile, making it impossible for us to pass peacefully.

Octavian, I might suggest to them that while it would certainly be prudent to deny passage in a SP game, this is MP and they are going to have to trust someone sometime, and it might as well be us, and it might as well be now. Grant our one warrior passage and we will agree to support them in any war for quite some time.

Also, we let the laborer situation in Shen Ling (+0 food, +9 shields) ride for one more turn, but in 2090BC we switch back to the old numbers (+3 food, +7 shields). Doing so will ensure our granary is completed prior to our city's growth.

The trust thing is good, but considering how well my proposal of an MPP went, I won't add the support in war part.

Shen Ling change noted. ;)

Still no response from Rex on my note. I'll tell you when I get it.

Got a reply from Rex.

We here at CDG also wish for a long and prosperous future between our two
civilizations. It is important for us to have this friendship, as when we
work together we can each become strong, and even stronger together.

However, at this juncture, we are not able to allow your warrior through the
passage, for several reasons. First, our cities are very close to there, and
members of our team understandably are concerned with you passing so close.
Second, allowing you to "scout" our land makes it easier for you in the
future if you ever wanted to declare war on us, since you would know where
our resources and cities are. Finally, why would you want to pass by anyway?
We are basically all that is there, except for Poly, and they are on the
other side of our territory by quite a ways.

CDG Ambassador:
- Micaelis Rex

His concerns are understandable. I am going to start work on a document that officialy outlines our friendship. That might make them see that we dont want to declare war on them. We need to make them see, that we don't want a war with them any time soon.

That is an excellent response and we should respond in kind. I would propose something similar to the following:

"We have no desire to invade, or initiate any hostilities with your nation. We desire passage only for the purpose of meeting Apolyton. In fact, if you were to allow us passage through your lands to facilitate that meeting, we would be willing to follow a path, specifically charted by you so that we would minimize any knowledge of your homeland. Furthermore, upon meeting Apolyton, if you so desired, we would be willing to disband that warrior so that there would be no need for a return journey through your lands.

We are sympathetic to your concerns and would be willing to take whatever steps necessary to make you comfortable with the notion of allowing our unit to pass. For example, we have not yet asked you to withdraw your warrior from our side of the isthmus and have no intentions to do so, provided you agree to allow us safe passage.

We, too, wish to develop a long and healthy friendship between our two nations, founded in trust, and strengthened by continuous, ongoing communication and partnerships. I look forward to the day when the rest of the world trembles at the thought of opposing the combined might of CDG and CFC."

That is very good 40J. Infact I think we should use that directly, but there might be a problem with them directing us, as they can't legally send us maps yet.

True.
