Nothing special happened, just moving along on the 4th place. Here is the unpleasant Demographics screen. We are number 4 is virtually everything.

Just to make sure all citizens understand that we are in rather bad shape, I'm posting the F1 advisor screen. Brief analysis reveals that we are somewhat behind for a few reasons:

1) We don't have food bonus near our capital city.
2) Only few of our cities are on the river and we are still in Despotism.
3) We have few workers and some tiles are not yet improved.
4) We are building a wonder in one of the most productive cities which could be used to build settlers and workers instead.
5) IMvHO, we were not increasing the luxury rate early in the game which is a standard trick to enhance growth and accelerate early expansion.
6) Some micromanagement issues have certainly contributed to this.

The question is:
How to cope with this retardation?
The answer is:
There is no way. Damage to growth is irreversible.
Another question:
What to do now?
Answers:
1) Try to minimize the retardation so that it does not increase exponentially over time.
2) Wage aggressive wars as early as possible to cripple the opponents but make sure we can win these wars.
3) Acquire more strategic resources.
4) Acquire more luxuries.

In this setup, it would be certainly beneficial to revolt not to Monarchy which would turn our country in forever backwards people but may be to Republic. However, we don't have this knowledge.

Regarding the expansion:

I have somehow managed to get a minimap increased in size and we can see the proposed border between us and C3B as a red line:

Our curragh to north-west continues to explore and is spotting violent barbarian activity:

Another curragh to the north has come to a crossroads: It can continue exploration in 3 directions as indicated by an arrow. Where to go next turn?

Map Making will be ready next turn. Question: Is it possible according to the rules of the game to press "What is the big picture" button, go to F1 screen and switch Rytty to galley from the temple prebuild? Or this is prohibited? If it is allowed we are OK, if not, then we should build harbor in Rytty IMO. Otherwise, we would be losing too many shields.

Another issue is tech trade. Do we send Map Making to C3B the very same turn or only on the next turn?

Actually, I find their research on Monarchy somewhat expensive and useless. They would have better research Philosophy and then one of us could have gone for Republic whereas another would have continued to research other techs required to advance to another age. But C3B has been rather stubborn on these issues. Not that much can be done about it. :)

I say you are doing very well, akots, and with your skills those points in the first post may be reached. :)

I think we shouldn't go for the suicidal North with the curragh now, I think the most southern route would be good.

I'm not sure about the switching production thing... could someone check the UN for that please? :)

What would the city be named? Mac-o-polis? SaaMcity?

We have no treaty on the island, C3B doesn't necessarily even know about it.

How soon will we have a worker ready to launch to the island? If we don't have one, I suggest we send a lone JT there then to demolish any barbie huts that mihgt be there, and send the settler when it's ready.

That of course depends on our JT's position etc... could you please provide a screenie of the mainland Fanatica every turn, akots, even if nothing happens, that would still help. :)

SaaMtopia would suffice

I agree.... Its much easier to keep aware of what is happening with a screenie everyturn.....

About our growth problem:
Another reason would be that we didn't build a granary and didn't let the cities grow fast enough.

And it's too late to start second guessing about the government type. Republic is too far away and we'd stay in despotism for far too long.

OK, but we still have to poll the revolution apparently. If we revolt, it must be done immediately after we receive Monarchy from C3B unless SoZ is not ready yet. And also we need a barracks in TF. Can whip it partially (one citizen) before going to Anarchy since the city would starve anyhow. It is too big and we have only a single luxury.

I'd like to pause north of the city next turn, then go north. Perhaps that could lead to another island? But it's probably connected to the continent, so go ahead and sail west then southwest.

Thanks a lot for that shot, akots. Until we know the shape of the land no border can be set yet. C3B doesn't seem to understand this however... :(

What about our hard working ambassidor? :p
Maybe EmperorCity, EMP, EMP's Palace, EMP for Minister of Internal Affairs, Napoleonopolis :p

C3B probaly deos not know about it, but if they find it they will want us to have less land in the border. But if they were to want to claim it and share it, I would like to go to war :p

Don't do it, akots. ;) Here's the pertinent rule of the game(courtesy of the UN).

3.2 - Hitting F1/back-forward to change production

Description: It is possible to use F1 to go into city views and change production or rush items before a city has been reached in the pre-turn production queue.

Definition: This can result in tech-enabled units and Wonders being completed the very turn the tech is researched, or production to be changed in response to an enemy's actions (like Walls if a stack moves toward a specific city and not another).

Purpose: To prevent the unfair allocation of resources not intended to be used in a certain way on the previous turn and keep gameplay flowing within the spirit of the game.

Verdict: Using the pre-turn production queue at the beginning of a turn to change production or to rush builds in a city is a violation of this rule.

Punishment Level: Once - Red (2+ Turns)

Perhaps c3b understands this very well. Perhaps they have huge tracts of land and want to push a border before our little boats discover any more. Hence the rush as our boats draw closer to there homeland.
