Turn Discussion Thread

Looking a lot further ahead quickly, are we planing on settling our first 4 cities on this island? Or will we be venturing off sooner rather than later?

I know that there are a lot of unknowns in there but whats the initial impression?

Depends how good the partially unseen spot is. My guess is we'll probably found at least 3 cities on the island before moving to the mainland, but it could be 2 or 4 as well. We'll have to check out the map and decide when the time comes. :)

I'm going to keep pushing for getting off the island earlier. :p I agree it depends on what we find, but I would be surprised if it wasn't the third city. There must be a reason we are starting on islands... I think that reason is to get off them. :)

Hmm... Lord Parkin, there is no screen shot in your spoiler for turn 7. (Neither here nor in the Turn Tracker thread.)
There is for me...?

Is anyone else also not seeing the screenshot?

Weird. It might be me. But, I tried clearing my cache and starting a new Firefox session, but I still don't see the screen shot. And I can see all the others in the Turn Tracker thread. :crazyeye:

Okay, must have been some error that occurred when I uploaded it. I'll try again. :)

Alright, think I fixed it. Let me know if it works now. :)

I agree. Let's plan to be able to settle our 3rd city off the island so if we find something better we can.

I agree about settling 2nd city off Island, we can fill out Island later. I'll vote for BW because I don't think tech order matters at this moment, we can then do Wheel -> Writing -> Pottery -> Sailing.

Sorry Azzaman, decided getting the gold up first and then 2nd fish was a better improvement order. :)

Well I don't have the Tech tree memorized but since people WERE talking BW -> Writing.

I'm curious as to how you suggest we learn Writing before Pottery. :p

As stupid as this sounds I spent 5 minutes in a test game before getting to the end to realise I had skipped over pottery on my way to writing. Very very annoying!

The lesson I learnt: Skipping AH will avoid this mistake :P

By the way, I realised that the Warrior is automatically moving around the island in a clockwise direction. Sorry if this bothers anyone, I remember there being some discussion about whether to move him counter-clockwise or not. Either way though, it should make no difference in the long run, since we'll reveal it all soon enough anyway. ;)

Wasn't really discussion, just a comment from me. A diagonal across the centre of the island to the NE corner (from the "city D" tile) reveals the darker parts of the island sooner, without taking any longer in total. But it doesn't matter as you say, we'll get there soon enough either way.

When the warrior is finished, it should fortify on the second northernmost silk, as this is the spot which will spawn-bust the whole island once the borders pop on turn 25 (and does the best job possible with just one warrior until then).

I'm for settling "City C", it's got one more fish than the south west corner, it's pretty much as good as the capital site so it's worth getting the settler out sooner rather than later. We should have it settled before we could get to the mainland (or whatever's out there) anyway.

After that, it really depends what we see elsewhere. We're probably better off taking the best site available, wherever it is. That might well be any site with copper.

As intent as we are on this early library, it's worth considering building a second worker to get the second city going sooner. It's also worth considering sending a workboat over to it from the capital to get the fish worked as soon as possible. Both will slow down our other plans a little, but taking several turns off getting the second city going will pay huge dividends.

FWIW I'd really, really like to know where horses and copper are on our island, if at all, as soon as possible. A combination of axes and chariots will give our military great strength and speed, and it's very important in my mind to know if we have horses and/or copper on the island before we go looking elsewhere for cities.

Coz if we have neither, I'd push strongly for IW straight after Writing instead of Sailing.

Personally, I think we should revolt while the settler is moving from Sirius to city loc 2 to minimise the losses. The more cities we have when we revolt, the more we lose.

I second this or something similar. With all the talk about the capital I started to wonder late last night if we were overlooking developing our smaller cities. The capital usually isn't the town getting the main benefit of the whip anyway.

As for AH, I think we should get it sometime soon after writing, possibly before if it doesn't delay the library much. We definitely need AH before settling any off-island cities. IW would be nice to know too.
