Yesterday played Immortal game as Polynesians.
My settings were:
16 city states
Immortal Difficulty
Small Random Map
Standart Game Speed
The map:
I thought I had been playing Continents or Fractal map and payed no attention.
At first I rushed Romans at the North of my own continent with like 8 Maori warriors and, using embarkation ability, rushed England overseas, after upgrading my warriors to swords.
Then I upgraded them to Longswords and spearheaded Cusco and razed everything else of Incas.
]
By that time I got my Longswords upgraded to Rifles and got 2 cannons, which assisted my siege of Madrid and Barcelona. Strangely, Spain had only pikemen and xbowmen.
Then my hope of quick game of less than 170 turns had gone, because Babylon had Great Wall, many cannons and zero desire to develop dynamite to make my life easier.
Almost 90 turns of war of attrition, before I got last capital.
Afterwards I was amazed. Because the randomly generated map was in fact Pangea:
2 Conclusions:
1) I frequently noticed, that playing against Polynesians, they start at the island far from Pangean shores, but didn't expect, that if you play them, your Pangea map will become Continents (likely fractal). This has very bad affection on challenge level of the game. AI become easy pray of early rush.
2) Great Wall sucks. At least it should become obsolete after YOU discover dinamite, not the owner of The Wall. At best it should become obsolete after Gunpowder or Cannons, because for its cost it make you really immortal and immune to ivasions before you get artillery. Or make it cost like 10 times of the present. It is real game breaker.
This is wrong to make player build Great Wall in order to be able to finish game early, without this artificial delay.
Spoiler :
