So I think I FINALLY figured out the problem Knights of the Old Republic has with my main computer (and no there isn't any information about it anywhere I can find),
and I also have the same problem with Call of Duty 1 (for the last, like, 2 years I think). I don't think I updated my drivers between the time it worked then the time it didn't.
EDIT: Also DEFCON has an OpenGL problem too. It gets to the main menu but is sooo slooooowwww and c h O pPy it is unplayable, KoToR doesn't even reach the first movie, it immediately goes blank and stops responding).
When trying to run CoD1 (even with a completely cleaned out install of the game) I get this message;

Could not load OpenGL. Make sure that you have the latest drivers for your video card from the manufacturer's web site.
KoToR's little requirement test thing also complains about lack of Open GL drivers, which is BULLdroppings. I have an XFX 8800GT (and this started for CoD on my old 7900GT card so I know it isn't card specific), and the drivers have been updated many times (latest ones are from a month ago I think, and there really is no point in downloading the absolutely latest ones since this problem has been going on for a very long time, although I'll do that soon).
What the heck is going on? My drivers should have OpenGL all the way up to version 3 or 4 (I forget which one is the newest or if 4 is even out). Also I use XP.
EDIT: The solutions provided on Activision's website don't work either.
No, i did try rolling back drivers to v93 at one point before just reinstalling the new ones. How do i uninstall my video drivers and why wouldn't a .dll be replaced by any of the dozen or so tiems I installed new drivers since?
Also if I uninstalled my drivers, would I be able to see anything if there is nothing there to render graphics?
Finally go around to doing it, it did get rid of my old drivers, but I still have the same problem with some games thinking I don't have OpenGL 1.3 which is BS!
I recently bought Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena off steam as it was super cheap ($5 iirc), and it won't load, complaining about 1.3 OpenGL stuff (or lack there of).
