1) We can't recycle polystyrene very well. Why not grind it up and use it as housing insulation?
2) Instead of planting a whole bunch of artificially watered lawns in our cities, why not plant indiginous eadible plant life. For example in Vancouver, one could plant berry bushes everywhere. In LA, one could plant citrus trees everywhere. They do this in Havana. Don't let the propaganda fool you, Havana is a great city (30% of the land in Havana is public gardens).

Add here your ideas of how to make the world better with as little work as possible.

I salute your ideas!

But I cringe to think what our resident 'Ted Nugent Appreciation Society' will say about your suggestions...

I think the citrus tree plan is a sound concept, anyway!
:goodjob:

Would this be the thirty percent of Havana that's part of Castro's palace, guarded by machine gun turrets and electric fences?

I have fruit trees, but it takes water to keep them alive, so..... :undecide:

How will you keep people from stealing the fruit/berries/etc.? Or will the goodies be free from the taking?

I doubt it would be a problem. Better yet, I doubt Newfangle would see it as a problem. :D ;)

The goodies will be free for taking.

And for rmsharpe. Please don't comment until you actually visit Cuba. I have....

Oh, well, since they're free, I will not suggest having Ted Nugent disciples guard them, which was my first idea.

Maybe we could use those fruits and berries and start a huge fruit fight just like the Spanish use their tomatoes...that could boost tourism;)

The free part or the repressive part? Oh, wait, there is no freedom in Cuba.

I take that to mean you have NOT visited Cuba. Again, talk about what you know please. I have not been to Cuba, so I will not comment...

Rmsharpe, I am putting you [and anyone else] on my ignore list for 3 days every time you post 5 trolls a day, just to let you know. You probably don't care, but because of a personal whim I have decided that the reason you come to these forums is to change people's opinions and convince them of your viewpoint. Therefore trolling is probably not a good idea ;) as you're not going to get through to many people if everyone else does the same as me. I'm sorry, I'm committed to a lot of forums, and since this one is particularily intelligent, I just can't waste time reading people's comments if they're going to make irrelevant and corny sarcasms. ;)

I think the citrus is a great idea :goodjob: but if I remember correctly they require TONS of water. Surely there is something that would be more h20-efficient? Also, pesticides are a problem.

Next time you go to cuba could you smuggle me some cigars

But I digress,

Instead of wasting batterys we could make specialized ac-dc adapters that fit into battery slots

Any fruit native to your region shouldn't requre water. Isn't the L.A. valley the most fertile place in the world (until it was completely developed of course).

One could argue that he was provoked into doing so by your willingness to make light of the plight of the voteless, incomeless, rightless and hopeless Cuban people.

I love Cuban jazz. In fact, I love it so much that I wish the Cuban jazz players would be entitled to express themselves however they wish without fear of repression.

As for the citrus trees, brilliant idea. Personally, I found the "stone lawns" in San Diego to be almost as offensive as the grassy lawns.

Here's a suggestion: free workout bicycles should be cemented by the dozen in a large public park in each city, all of them attached to a generator. Radio stations bid for the rights to play their music in each bike area, and the power all gets used for public buildings to help us Canadians meet our Kyoto targets.

he he.

EDIT: just read your last post, newfangle. If memory serves, it was never particularly fertile, hence the need for immigration and the cool movies about water theft like "Chinatown."

But as for northern california, on the other hand...

What a great argument against my point that Cuba is about as beautiful as seeing a pile of dead bodies stacked up after the Khmer Rouge, that is, if you think enough about how Cuba has been governed for the last 43 years.

Surely, you could have come up with a better example of good park use than the longest lasting military dictatorship in the world.

What do you do with an unpleasant sight, i.e., the reluctance to see the evils of this world for what they are? Easy, ignore them. Even Castro's own daughter despises him for his four decades of authoritarian rule.

Good idea. Make various bikes have higher tension, so the fit people can contribute more energy :D.

Leave this area immediately foul threadjacker! Unless of course you want to contribute a lovely progressive idea that will result in a socialist insurrection of all that is good and pure.
