UN meetings

I think it would be cool as the game progressed to have something like a UN meeting where countries could try and force other countries to accept peace or there will be consequences (trade embargo or even all out war).

An idea would allow any civ to call a UN meeting at any time on whether two civs should stop fighting or whether a particular civ should be attacked due to using nuclear weapons. After a vote by all civs, there would be an advised decision where each civ would then have the choice to follow the vote result or ignore it. So if the UN voted that a civ should be attacked for attrocities then a civ could agree and declare war without any negative effects but if they refused then you would have a reputation hit.

id like some way of being able to have some influence over other civs. asking them to make peace etc. etc.

hey thats a good idea, but i think it would be very difficult to implement since the comp player dont really see any sense...

Base it on a number of factors such as the difference in size between the two nations, a large tech difference or through very good relations and a history of past trades although then there also needs to be a reason for you to want to stop a particular civ from fighting and also there should be a reasonably large risk that the AI can reject your request.

along these lines: when an aggressive civ has a rite of passage agreement with a passive civ, and that aggressive civ attacks me through the passive civ's territory, then i should be able (through the u.n., or just through my embassy) to INSIST that the passive civ close its borders. and i should then be justified in attack the passive civ, regardless of agreements between us, without it affecting my reputation.

yes, thats a good time to use it. And the disarmament ideas people have talked about could take place here.

There seems to be a really stong call for a proper UN option in quite a few threads. Personally, though, it seems like the Civ4 UN could be out of proportion with what really happens. Pity that thats true. Could a Civ UN give aide to a Volcano stricken city? Or unjust war? Just ideas...

Possible UN Actions:

1. Adopting enviornmental standards: Forcing all civs to build a recycling center or solar plant or whatever in X% (I was thinking 50%) of their citites - only available after all civs have discovered the appropriate tech.

2. Outlawing certain types of governments (needs 3/4 vote?). Countries could still use that government type, but all other civs would declare war.

3. Ban slavery. All captured workers will be returned to their home civ.

Just some ideas....
