unable to install

civ IV complete edition, (dvd) XP 32bit sp3
autorun gives me Microsoft Runtime Libray buffer overrun error
settup. exe gives me setup exe error
sytem requirements are ok
tried delete of install shield...
had game playing for about a month but very choppy with pointer, and as game progressed it really slowed down, especially whenother civilitzations woould make contact. Got to point where game just froze. couldnt do anything. I decided to try to uninstall and re-install. WHAT A MISTAKE!! made new user account no help. Went back to restore point and game was still there but now littered with XML errors. tried all the xml fixes via posted threads here but no prevail. Could not upgrade sound card driver though, installshield error every time. After hours of reading posts and fixes and nothing working i just undid the restore and back to square one with being unable to install game.
maybe im missing something simple but i had a differnet computer years ago when this game first came out and never had any problems. but now i see problems are pretty dam common. PLEASE ADVISE

ok, now im back to auto run giving me "auto run is not a valid win32 application"

after a good registry clean up i now am getting the utorun to function and bring up "install" "read me" and "exit " screen" but still get errors when trying to install.

first module in error is setup exe
next module is nt.dll
and the list continues...

anyone?

just trying to figure out what stage you are at right now:
you did uninstall the game? was there any problem?
you try to reinstall it? could you post the exact error?
and install a non-debug directx 9c version: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en

yes uninstalled with no problems. but then i could not reinstall. after lots of frustration i went back to restore point to get game back, which it was but would not play due to XML errors. Tried endlessly to use XML fixes i found here, but no luck. So i undo the restore and figured i try my luck getting this installed again. Through that process i have seen a boat load of different errors, mostly "setup.exe"and "autorun.exe" errors. for some reason i have brought up the install screen, but got errors when click on install. i think the were on the lines of "is." and a number. but today it is different. now the install screen comes up and the "read me" portion is missing and nothing at all happens when click on install.

downloaded new direct x too, no change

now i am back to
" autorun.exe - Application Error" The applicatin failed to initalize properly (0xc0000005)

nothing happens when trying to use setup icon, i can hear the drive runnin but nothin ever happens, no error message , but the temp file gets some Iss files usually some iss10f of is7 ...

the install window wont come up at alll now

when you run the setup.exe what error comes up? the same as with the autorun.exe? did you run the setup.exe with admin rights? i.e. did you right click on it and choose run as admin?

unfortunately the game will need to use admin rights to run properly
