Unchecking the Space Race Victory box

Will the AI behave differently if I uncheck the Space Race Victory box and will there be any benefit if I (or the AI) still build the spaceship?

If you uncheck space race victory, you won't be able to build the spaceship, and even if you could, it would be completely useless.
