Ah so we've heard it all. Well having played enough games now
there are a few tricks one might consider. I had Rome march a stack of legions AROUND THE FRONT ONE towards my back city(s).
Thing was i only had 3 Hoplites in that front city. And 8 in the one he attacked. -Same thing happened playing against the Celts,
in otherwords , its a risk, but ever consider undermanning ur main border city?
Then there is the this. If u can get a couple allies, then u can have them enter "diplomacy" with ur opponent at the time
WHEN U STRIKE and then have them do it again throughout the warfare. This will enable u to make those key moves FIRST while your opponent is mucked up in the diplomacy screen.
When i am at war i always select the option "don't contact me for 20"
Then there are those tales when ur beat, ur doomed , u have a one in a million shot, and ...it works , Elim of course, where ur gamble obliterates a bigger foe- really unbelievable stuff.
