I have uninstalled Nero and Windows XP Highmat(spelt?) from my computer and things are looking up for me now. I have made it to 1200AD with 'only' 3 crashes whereas before it would crash/BSOD every 10 turns, while clicking on units, opening diplomacy etc. To try this make sure you restart after uninstalling.
I am now on full settings whereas before I was running no sound/movies, low graphics etc. AMD 64, 3.0GHz, 1GB RAM, 128MB 9600XT, Window XP2.
I know I should wait for the game patch but cant help myself after seeing the potential of it through my short glimpses.
