Unit and city limits for Civ2-TOT

Okay, I have some dumb questions:

1) For Civ2-Multiplayer Gold Edition (MGE):
I know that the maximum number of cities is 255, but what is the maximum number of units that can exist at the same time?

2) For Civ2-Test of Time (TOT)
Since there can be more than one map for the same game, has the unit limit and/or city limit been increased from Civ2MGE?

2048. Or somewhere near there anyway. I think when I tried to test it a while ago I came out at slightly less.
