unit and popuation enhancements

I've always wanted completely customizable units in civilization. Much like in Alpha Centauri where you could create new units in game in order to adapt to changes in the game. For example you could pick a chassis (mounted, wheeled, foot, etc) a weapon, armor, and unique abilities. Of course the default unit types would still be included but you could create new ones. For example you could make police units which are lightly armed and armored or heavily armed fighting units, of course adding more things would cost more. I am pleased to hear that Civ 4 will have special abilities, but it would have been great if they have a in game method of creating new units.

My other suggestion is that there should be food and mineral transport units that could move 'sheilds' from mining cities and food from agicultural cities to larger industrial cities closer to the core of your empire. In such a way you could make large coastal cities like new york or london (neither of which could support themselves on the land around them).
