I like koons idea as well. Anything that allows the units not to get confused. typeing Alpha and bravo right now keeps people from typing warrior to the west/east. Also not to mention people mistaking west with east. naming the units a generic way is helpful regardless in a situation like this. It prevents misunderstandings and such.
