The problem with many new units is they are too pastel in appearance. Here is my A-10 from Civ 2 (along with other custom units).
They don't look like they've been drawn, because they have very subtle coloring. The units should look much smoother. Feel free to play with my A-10 if you want...

Unit making is too tedious and time consuming. My first attempt, a Jedi for the Star Wars mod was taking waaaay too long, as I had to repaint every frame from the original Samuri. So I figured I steal a new unit out of another game, in this case the A-10 from Empire Earth, but when I started on the attack animations, It was still going too slow. Sorry, but unit making is just not my cup of tea.
