Unit Production vs. Teching advice?

@ Tomoyo: I know, so have I, but that wan't my point. It would seem that a tiny but very modern army is worth less in the eyes of the AI than a huge but obsolete one. Or well, not tiny vs huge, but size seems to be the only thing that matters. Which is why the AI keep all their ancient units all along the game, which actually is annoying.
 
One of the patches, Vanilla 1.17f I believe, changed it so that the Ai takes into consideration how powerful the unit is, instead of just a head count.

And I've always thought that the Ai had obsolete units because they couldn't afford to upgrade them, or lacked the resources/barracks to do so.
 
A line has to be drawn with regards to units versus buildings. The AI will always out race you to this tech or that tech or in quantity. The key is to keep the AI embroiled in conflict while scoring leaders. The AI falls apart after 20 turns of war.
