If ranged units are king in civ5, there must be good promotions to take as well?

I was just thinking about this because, I once managed to build Alhambra and Brandenburg gate in the same city. Later on I built up to military academy, and picked autocracy +15% more experience.

I was able to build quite highly trained melee units out of that city needless to say.

Off the bat, I could take, up to drill III + one promotion

For ranged and siege units I suppose it would have been slightly less because free drill promotion from alhambra doesn't apply right?

I was mainly thinking about artillery and rocket artillery promotions basically though.

Or, what about the best promotions for tanks and modern armors? (I'm inclined to say that repair (same as march, healing despite actions) would be good for tanks.

But for tanks, you could either take blitz (2 attacks per turn) or mobility (extra movement) or something.

The best promotion for ranged unit is +range, followed by logistics (except for archer cavalries, they'd want logistics first). With those you don't need March, which is more useful for melee to be better meat shields. While blitz is useful, you generally not want to damage your melee wall too much.
As for artillery and rocket artillery, I always pick the +50% damage against cities and fortified units instead. With the nerf of air units, I find these to be the main back bone of your army or even homeland security later on now.

Archer units: Bombard/Accuracy III -> Logistics -> Range. Range only helps with sieging cities (slowly) but I'd prefer overwhelming a city quickly with catapults/trebuchets.

From Gatlings onwards -> Bombard/Accuracy II -> March. Getting to range might be useful, but since these units are strong enough for frontline, I prefer to use them in the frontline for both shooting and tanking. Besides you can get March much earlier.

Siege units -> Bombard/Accuracy I -> Volley -> Bombard/Accuracy III -> Logistics.
