Unit Request: Brave

with the advent of the Civ Trait Units comes a need for yet more unit animations.

In the next installment of my new double your pleasure mod the Milataristic civs will now have the ability to create Braves

^The earliest military forces were simply the citizens of the city, armed with whatever implements they could
use as weapons. In many ancient societies the young men were forced to learn the art of war. They were trained from their youth in the tools of warfare and forced to pass through rights of initiation to prove their manhood. If they survived the ordeal they were welcomed into the community and for their bravery and courage they were honored as braves. These young men were far superior to the common warrior and were often able to take on forces twice their numbers.

The Brave could be a modified version of the scout, put a tomahawk in his right hand and a knife (pointing down) in his left with some war paint. Firaxis already included the pedia icon for this unit.
 
I'd like to make this, but as a replacement for the Iroquis warrior, not with any real status improvements, but just as part of my sinister master plan to have totaly unique looking civs. Firaxis will not stop me from eradicating blandness from their game, HA HA HA HA HA!

Hate to mess up an idea, but if your idea is to give militaristic civs a warrior with an attack of 2, would this not render the archer superfluous? One thing I have noticed about civ3 is that it is more finely balanced than many would think, be careful that things arn't knocked out of kilter. The attribute specific units are a good idea (don't get me wrong) but I've foung that adjusting something at the base of the unit chain affects everything above it.

Love the Tribe unit idea, though.

I'll look into making the brave ASAP.
 
well, it would make the original archer superfluous, yes, but really I am talking about putting this into the double your pleasure mod, so all the units have been reorganized and having a brave with an attack 2 doesn’t really effect the archer so much as it effects some UU’s, namely the impi and the jaguar warrior. I will have to rework those two units.

Regarding the archer:” why doesn’t it make the archer useless you ask? An interesting question. The answer is that the archer in the double your pleasure mod has base stats of 1/1/1 just like your standard warrior , but the kicker is that starting with the archer all missile weapon units are given the bombardment ability which allows them to attack an enemy unit without endangering themselves and soften them up before the enemy can counterattack. Right now I have the ancient archers with a bombard of 3 which may need to be tweaked down to a 2, but I am waiting for feedback on that.
 
Does anyone know if such a unit ever saw the light of day? I'd love just such a thing for an American Indian-type mod I'm piddling around with.
