I wasthinking something like this. (This is a very crude animation)

I agree a pikeman would be better. Or at least a spearman so he's not too heavy and carrying a pike or lance.

Honestly, even if you are close enough to hit with a spear, the dragon is close enough to barbecue them. If he throws the spear, that is a different thing. Perhaps a spearthrower, archer, crossbowman . . .?

I was thinking the same thing. :) The guy is unlikely to be engaging in any aerial combat, he will leave that up to the dragon, the need for a weapon would come when he got on the ground and had to fight on foot.

Of course there are the Dragonlance novels, and I assume that that means those guys were fighting with lances on dragons, but I never read those stories so I don't know if the dragon and the lance are actually related, and if they are, if they are related in that way.

:D

Well, as I said in another thread, while the unit creator has the models and can make anims easily from it, I think EVERY unit should be made with 5-6 alternate attacks so that modders can use them as they want. For this unit I can see the following attacks:

Dragon lands, uses claws
Dragon spits fire
Rider fires arrow (or bolt or spear)

For death, you could have:

Dragon dies, rider dies from fall
Dragon dies, falls upside down ontop of rider
Rider dies, Dragon flees

If the modder made all 3 attacks and all 3 deaths, then we can have a wide variety of animation instead of the same thing every time. (on a mod by mod basis, not during the same game)

 I never thought of that. I read a few of these books, but never the ones that had to do with the dragon wars. The books I read everyone talked about the dragons being extinct. I never thought how they came up with the name for those books.

BTW: I stand corrected. In all aspects, the ranged attack of bows would be far better than a lance or pike.

The significance of the Dragonlance was that it was made of Dragon Metal, a special metal that came from the body of the slain dragon Wyrmfather (I think). The dragonlance was the only mortal weapon that could puncture the scales of a dragon and kill it, but it would only be weild by a man of pure heart, a Solamnic Knight, otherwise the lance would shatter.

here is a good illustration of the size of a Dragonlance.

I dont have the capability

Since I have the dragon model and animations as well as a saddle fit for the dragon I'll put this onto my list. As long as I still have my animation files it won't be too hard (or long) but if I've deleted the files it will be quite a while.
