UNIT REQUEST: Merkava Mk. 4 Tank

Horay! The merkava is still on my "to do list", but I was hoping that someone would get there first. I know I promised to do it a LONG time ago, but Iv'e been sidetracked, and doing tanks all the time can get a bit boring. Looks good, One of the problems I could see with the real life merkava in modeling is the non symetrical turret, its got a big "Wedge" shape cut out of it at the front/side- this is causing me a lot of problems. It may be worth ignoring that aspect though as it won't realy show up on the civ unit.

I got the same problem with my SSG120 tank for the Swedes, there is a shaped cut in the front of the turret that I simple cant do... driving me nuts!!!!!!
I would really like to be able to do a 4 point geometrical plane, but no.....

Can you do it in Moray???

I'm not quite sure if this is what you mean exactly but there are Translational Sweeps... Basicly you can design any 2 dimensional shape and it translates the shape up... so if you draw a circle you would get a cylinder... that's just an example... you can also bevel the edge of the shape, so you could quickly design an arrowhead shape.

So far, here how I see it

It's light detailed, because I thing the civ unit size will mess the whole image up instead of making it better.

If you see any important detail you think I should add on, feel free to tell me.

The turret has been complety remade. I tryed to make t like the MK4 even if I don't have any blueprint. So I redesigned a bit the body too, and I can tell you now :

We will have a Merkava 4 and not an old Mk3)... when of course I will have the animations done. And that's not for tomorrow:D !

Picture is on my next post.

I´m not sure if this was for me or Smoking Mirror, but I have a pic of the shape I try to do, can I send it to you and see if you got an idea how to...?

Well, yes it's my first. I couldn't wait to have this unit so I have given it my last days of holidays.
I can't tell you how "happy" is my girlfriend !
It was hard, but each time I was gonna shoot yourself, a solution to the current problem always appeared at the good time.

Try Rhinoceros. It has a good tutorial tool that helps you understand the main commands you can work from. Fortunately, tanks has pletty of straight surfaces and just few curves. Heasier to make than a human being, I can tell !

I'm now wondering how to make this animation. I have no idea how to export the unit in the proper format.
Have I to export in PCX, work on it, then into a FLC, or directly to a FLC ?
How do I get the proper color palette, when I know the first rows of it are for specific civ colors ? How do I force the computer to put static colors to the rows below ??
And finally, how to be shure to take snapshots (from Rhino to go to Photoshop) each time with the exact same angles, since I will have to edit the model to make the animation ?

Could someone help ?

Neomega is a whiz with Rhino, his future units are realy great, perhaps you should private message him. Its difficult to make sugestions for a program that I dont know how to use.
Lovely looking unit though, just like the MKIV!

Thank you ! Coming from you, that's a honor ! :)

So everybody, I just created the thread preview for this unit. Every new information will go there now.

See you .there .

Yeah Omnimower send me the image and I'll see if it's possible...
