Unit Requests: Chinese Flavor Units

Sounds good, someone should start making flavor units for different civs.

I might start making them, don't know if i'll put them on CivFanatics though.

Cool! Maybe we can make some "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" or "The Warring State Era"
scenario :)

I'm gathering up ideas and opinions for such a scenario now, there is a thread on it in this forum.

I looked at some of the pictures, and I would definitely be interested in using some of these units, if they exist. Time period I'm looking for is the Late Han Dynasty/Three Kingdoms Era, about 184-280 AD.

And I tend to agree with the prevailing thought in these forums, Civ3 is WAY too Euro-Centric!

Yes, but we would need to be able to limit Building, Units, Wonders, etc to a given civ to change this Euro-centric default, and also true customizable tech tree, on a civ per civ basic.

For instance, I have one question for my own mod. Some units were never used by some countries. Should I let the unit available, with a kind of generic units, or will the civ have to do without them? But then, what's the point of discovering the tech?

Take the Aztecs. Should I gave them cavalry units? Yes, Aztec had no cavalry. Because they had no horses. What would have happened if they had had horses?

Limiting the units (at least) to unit actually used by a civilization would give very specific civ, and provide real challenge for some of them, but I'm afraid it will unbalance the game to much.

but so much of that is dependant on the twists and turns of History. In our world's history the Aztecs never had cavalry, but that doesn't mean in an alternate history of a Civ3 game they couldn't. If the Aztec player has access to horses there is no reason that they shouldn't be able to develop military units using them. It would be inconceivable that a civilization with access to such a useful tool for warfare would not utilize it.

Procifica, I am surprised you are not more active in keeping this thread alive. Your Three Kingdoms Scenario could definitely benefit from some more Chinese Units being made. :)

(Just a clever way to bump the thread)

Has anyone figured out how to extract the units from "Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom"?

There are some great units in that game. It would be great if somebody could figure out how to extract them and convert them to flics.

There are even units for the immediate surrounding civs:

Yes they are really great units. You might want to talk to GIDustin, he converted Red Alert units using screenshots(i think)

He got a tool that takes a sertain ammount of screenshots a second, so it's propably not an easy work, I think he said it's over 300mb a unit, and cuttung of the background chould be rather hard (or so he said), but I don't think he has the time to do that now, perhaps he can post the tool here and someone else could do it?

I could give it a try, if someone else does the screenshots, i dont have the game.

You should buy it YodaPower. Emperor is an awesome game, if you like City Building games, and if you could get some more chinese flavor units, I believe all of us would greatly appreciate it.:)

Ok, so now there are two Chinese Scenarios/Mods under construction and hardly any Chinese units.

Please somebody with some unit creation talent take up the call. We need Chinese Units.

Hi, Kal-el, I have to say that you had done much more on collection Chinese traditional war equipment than most Chinese had done, include me.
Here I'd like to contribute some information.
In ancient China, soldiers usually equipment with leather armor, and generals usually took chain armor. Only elite troops had steel armor. In most cases people tends to equip two armors than take a heavy and inconvenient steel armor.
The most popular weapons soldiers equip is spear and sword. There are many kinds of swords and spears in China. The bow and crossbow was also wide used in ancient Chinese battle field.
The following pages are for reference, there are plenty of pictures in it.
I greatly appreciate your MOD, and hope that we can join our forces with the game designer to develop a history faithful game.
