It sounds very minor, but when you're in an alliance that you can't break (like a locked alliance), you should able to occupy the same sqaures as the other peopel in your alliance. How does that sound?

Sounds intelligent.

yeah, that's simple to do anyways. Simply the computer will view his troops like that of your own. Almost no coding at all.

In Civ 2, your wounded unit could move towards (into) an allied city, and if that city had a barracks- viola! Your ally helped repair your unit! Same with harbors of allies. This is a related feature that should be brought back.

Actually, that feature exists in SMAC, only it works for regular alliances as well.

You can even stay in your allieds cities..

Locked alliances should never exist in the main game, for obvious reasons. Still, I do agree with your idea. Of course, there's the problem of what happens should you betray your comrades (obviously simply timing out or cancelling the deal would just result in your troops getting kicked out; I'm talking about declaring war on them). Maybe the traitor's units would compare their attack values against their victim's defense values and fight like normal, but that would be very difficult to represent graphically. Any ideas?

IIRC, SMAC moved all units to your nearest base when a Pact of Brotherhood ended. That kind of makes treachery a bit difficult. Maybe moving your units to the border or something?

I'd like to have a chance of there being a surprise attack by units stationed in another civ's cities, but don't know if it can be coded effectively.

Yes, it's obvious to all, except to the people who made the decisions in Civ3.

Also, the alliances from Civ2 are far superior to the current Civ3 ones. Just one of many steps backwards taken in Civ3. :(

Yes I like that idea :goodjob:

Would be very helpful in scenarios.........

Especially in some historical situations such as world war 2.
It would be good to be able to build things like airbases in your allies territory, and be able to use them. Example: this way you could help represent the USA air units in China/British territories who fought the Japanese in WW2.

Would be extremely helpful for any world war 2 Europe scenarios!

To some extent I would like to see it in the main game also. Perhaps with an introduction of more dipolomatic options could allow this, like something even more binding than the current mutual protection pact/rights of passage.
