I've looked all through the FFH manual, and searched the forums until I'm blue in the face, but I can't find an answer to this simple question:

Why do some units have two strength scores (like Archers, "3/5")?
Is the first for attack and second for defense, a la Civ III?

You would think something so important would be obviously documented somewhere...

Your intuition is correct. The first number is attack, and the second is defense. The archer line is where you will see this most often, though heroes can eventually take promotions (post Combat-5) that give +1 to str for either attack/defense.

Not in the manual, but I'm sure that's in the FAQ...
