Hi all,

I tried for quite a while to locate any thread like this, sorry if this has been asked or answered before.

I just bought Beyond the Sword from e-bay power-seller, and either from my ignorance, or his unscrupulousness, had no idea or indication that it was a *Euro* version of BTS, for cheap- about $13.

So when I went to install it on top of what I am sure is a North American/U.S.A. version of vanilla Civ 4, already patched to 1.74, it says 'Failed to apply patch again! Installation aborting' or something similar. (It said 'again' even though it was my first installation attempt btw).

So, my question is, is there anything I can do to get Euro BTS to work with Civ 4 North America? Or, is it indeed true that Euro BTS will not work with my American Civ 4, or is this whole failure to install being caused by something else, perhaps?

I've requested the seller send me out an American version of BTS immediately, or issue a refund, and that I'll pay to mail the Euro BTS back to him.

Thank you for your assistance.

it should work just fine together (I just know this from the opposite - EU Civ4 + US BtS - but it should not be any different).
Do the below (remove all traces of the game as far as they are there) and ignore the warlords parts if you don't have that:

install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

then do the following for a clean reinstall:

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Civ4
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS)
(note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Civ4, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here)
Install Warlords, immediately patch it to 2.08 (download it fresh from here)
Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.19 (download it fresh from here).

Hi Repair Guy,

Thanks for your very helpful reply.

I just began working on it, step 1, and have encountered another issue and q. :

When I run DXDIAG, it says I have Direct X 9.0c version 4.09.0000.0904

The Microsoft Direct X update download link you provided indicates they are offering Direct X 9.0c version 9.26.1590

Seems like the latter is much more recent then the former, but, when I go to run the latter, it reports the version on my computer is more recent then itself, and therefore refuses to install.

Can you please explain what is going on?

Thanks,

DMJ

TYVM Ori, you guys and gals are the greatest!

Everything worked right the first time as you prescribed below : )

I'm so delighted atm I can't possibly disparage Take2/Firaxis lol

Hope to see you soon on some newly generated BTS planet : )
